  Absolutely gutted to be informed we could not have any food at the attached brewers fayre restaurant. We had paid extra to choose this hotel over a cheaper premier inn at Whitehaven specifically for the attached restaurant only to be told that no food was available unless we had pre booked a meal deal. No one was on reception when we booked in to let us know this. Very disappointing.

  Room are large and comfortable, bathrooms have slow running water to say it's in the lake district! Setting temperature for a shower can be very hot to cold. Food in the new Brewers Fayre, don't plan to eat here, arrange to visit outside, many nights on many visit it's Shut, lack of staff. Also when it's open you have to book in advance and not knowing when it will be open! 🤣 Restaurant only for hotel guests but only if you’ve booked, more than 5 people is too many. The Brewers Fayre was a very good Restaurant at this Premier Inn but since to company decided to close, this one is now one of the worse. This is my final visit, I will never return and the rest of my company colleagues will also stop somewhere else, NOT A PREMIER INN.

  This was our third stay here and it will be our last unfortunately. We initially stayed in January and the hotel and restaurant was lovely. Went again in sept and the restaurant was very poorly staffed meaning we had to wait for food and then after waiting they missed meals so ended up eating really late and the restaurant was closed on one of the evenings. Stayed again this weekend and the staffing levels were even worse. No breakfasts, restaurant closed both Friday and Saturday even after being told to book a table for Saturday pm. Wasn’t told the restaurant was closed. Premier inn. You need to sort this out before you end up with no customers!

  We arrived for a two night break met with an overflowing bin and rubbish strewn about outside, not the best start. There was no access to a toilet as it was in the bar/restaurant which was locked. Thankfully I managed to get someone to unlock the door. The place was very understaffed. As it was a self check in with three options which weren't working for us I had to ring to get checked in manually. The room we were allocated was for people with mobility problems which we don't have. It didn't smell very fresh, we couldn't open the window as it was sealed and our view was the car park and everyone walking in and out of the hotel. The location wasn't central and not safe for walking into Cockermouth. We didn't eat in the hotel the first evening and the second evening the bar/restaurant was closed. Apparently they'd ran out of food-why didn't they open for drinks??? This was a Christmas gift from my uncle, not the best. We won't be using a Premier Inn again after this experience.

  I'm currently staying at the Cockermouth Premier Inn for the 3rd week in a row due to work. Having read several reviews they are very mixed about the hotel so I'd like to give my honest take on what I've recently experienced. Due to working nights I booked this hotel on the basis it served evening meals but due to staffing issues the kitchen is closed except for breakfast. So if I want a hot meal before setting out for the night it's a takeaway/restaurant or buying (cold) provisions from the supermarket. As accommodation can be difficult to source in the area I'd booked in advance through my place of work I was reluctant to cancel. Out of the 3 visits my rooms have varied from good (1st week and 3rd week) to awful, with my room on the 2nd week smelling extremely damp. Trying to circulate air through the fan in the room is nigh on impossible and with no opportunity to open a window the rooms are quite stuffy and come the morning my throat is very dry. Even the multi floor Premier Inn's allow the window to be cracked open, and this is hardly a high rise hotel. While I appreciate Whitbread / Premier Inn are going through much publicised changes, this shouldn't be at the expense of the customer or their staff. It isn't all doom and gloom. I've found the staff at breakfast to be helpful, cheerful and friendly as they try and accommodate your needs. Today 11.09.2026 a young lady called Annie was working her socks off and it's only fair she gets some recognition. As a vegan it's refreshing to have options at breakfast and whilst I dip out on pastries, there are plenty of hot options, as well as fruit, oat milk, dairy free spreads and jams. The hotel could do with a spruce up and as many have said the external car park requires better lighting and to also make the parking requirements a lot more clear. Self check -in isn't for everyone and it would be useful to have staff on hand to help. If this was a school report it based on my 3 stays it would read A for the work ethic of Annie on breakfast today B + for the staff B for the breakfast options C- for the appeal of the hotel and inconsistency of the rooms D- for the lack of evening meals E for Whitbread putting their staff in a no-win situation Overall good but could do a lot better.
