  Love the location of the hotel. The set up of the room is very user friendly. Best of all grateful to the staff. We accidentally left a Bose headphone in the room. Only realised a day later when we returned to London. Made a trip back to Cambridge to enquire about the said headphones and they had found it and kept it safe for us! We really appreciate this. Thank you!

  Until now, we considered Premier Inn (PI) to be of the best quality and value hotels in the UK. Aspects (service, meals) are still good at some sites, but this Cambridge Central PI hotel (and PI in general) have issues. Service: Staff we met at PI Cambridge were motivated and friendly. However, over four days we observed they were spread thinly between front desk and restaurant, which occasionally undermined their ability to service guests. (Didn't help that the self-serve check-in didn't work well.) Location and building. Excellent for visiting central Cambridge. Yes, the hotel design with a very long hallway is a bit quirky, but its position in Cambridge couldn’t be better. Meals: Breakfasts at Cambridge PI had the good quality and value that we have enjoyed at almost all PI hotels. Dinner (1st night only — we chose to eat elsewhere other nights) was horrible. For the fish and chips, the chips were fine. But the fish was mostly skin (skin on fish and chips!) covered with crumbs, definitely not beer battered. My partner had caesar salad with chicken, which we’ve eaten at several past PIs. They initially forgot the chicken. And although the salad had fresh little gem lettuce, it didn't have much else and the dressing was watery something (mayo?), not the caesar dressing PI usually serves. Room. Clean room, good bathroom. Room size is a bit small for a small city hotel, but comparable to others here. The room was quiet even though in a busy pedestrian and retail area. Internet. PI finally increased the paid (free in Plus rooms) speed to 25mbps (previously 5 mbps). And Purple (the new provider) has much better administration of multiple devices. But let’s not celebrate too much.This is still below the free speed at most other hotels. And the 1mbps speed for the free service reflects poorly on PI’s view of its guests. PI should offer at least 10mbps free and closer to 100 mbps for premium. Beds: A shocking downgrade in quality. The new beds are truly soft — we are below average weight but sink into these beds — whereas the previous PI mattresses were famously medium-firm (just like beds at top brand hotels.). Also, the new mattresses poorly dissipate body heat compared to the previous PI mattresses. The new mattress design tells the story: it has five fairly thick layers of polyester, gel memory foam, etc., all known for blocking body heat. (Gel briefly makes you feel cool until the body heat is absorbed; holes in the foam don’t dissipate heat much.) The pocket springs are so far below that only a heavy person might feel their firmness. The previous PI mattress used wool and more breathable materials with much less distance to the pocket springs (both models have 1000 springs.) So, we’re amazed that other recent reviewers write (almost identically) “comfy beds”. How did they rate the previous PI beds that were so popular and much closer quality/firmness to top brand hotels?   Still no invoice despite repeated emails and calls I stayed at this Premier Inn on a business trip. The stay itself was fine, but obtaining a simple receipt/invoice afterwards has been extremely frustrating. I have emailed repeatedly and called the hotel several times, yet I still have not received the invoice I need for my employer's travel-expense accounting. A business hotel should be able to issue a receipt without requiring weeks of follow-up. I would appreciate it if management could finally review the outstanding requests and send the invoice.

  Have stayed in Premier Inns many times for many years. Will no longer do so. They had 1 - one - poor staff member who had to run the reception desk, be the restaurant waiter, and the barman, all at the same time. It took me and a queue of others ages to check in. No other service asked for .. the single member of staff just had too much already needing his attention. Disgraceful. Shame on you, Premier Inn Management. You don't support your staff properly by putting enough of them on-shift .. so I will not support you any more.
