I recently stayed an entire week for work. The location was quite convenient for downtown walkability. There were pubs and other amenities quite close. Alas, my overall experience was quite negative. The staff made some efforts to ameliorate the process, but in the end, I was not happy with my experience. For check-in, I arrived 3 hours early. No worries. The staff graciously stowed my luggage and gave a suggestion for local smoothies. I popped out for the smoothie and by the time I returned the rest of my out-of-country colleagues had also arrived. We were all early for the 3pm check-in, but the staff took down our names and said they would alert us when our rooms were available. The last of us finally got our rooms at 4:20pm, only ten minutes before the staff told us that the housekeeping staff left for the day. The looming threat after over 24 hours of travel for most of us was to not have a room? The staff did not provide alternative suggestions, insights, or offerings of hope. We were just left there in the lobby with a dozen bags of luggage and the fear that we might have to find a new hotel. Communication really lacked here and the hotel was underprepared to meet their own 3pm check-in times. Not a good start. The first night, the air condition was quite good. It worked as expected. The second and remaining nights of my stay it either did not work or did not work well. I arrived Saturday, so by Thursday when things had not improved even with calls to the front desk, I went down and confronted the staff. They admitted two things: the first was that the air condition was broken on my entire floor and that they were no longer booking rooms on the floor; the second was that they did have controls for the air conditioning in the back and that they turned it off every morning. First, the air conditioning broke on my floor and you never alerted me? You did not offer a room change proactively? No communication. Second, I understand energy conservation, and I appreciate it. However, you must not control the air conditioning outside of the room AND NOT HAVE A PROCESS for turning it back on. Now they are gaslighting me each night: is the air conditioning not working or did they simply not turn it back on? Each time I went to the front desk staff, I maintained a polite tone and language. I understand that they cannot fix things magically. Alas, as measured by their inability to communicate proactively, there was only one staff member who would speak directly with me: Kirt. Kirt was quite helpful and lovely, but his colleagues would literally just stonewall me when I tried to approach them or talk to them. In fact, on several occasions, Kirt would be busy and I would begin speaking with one of his other colleagues. When they literally just stopped replying to my questions, Kirt would step in and take over. After that pattern was established, I just asked for Kirt each time. Finally, on my second to last night, Kirt promised me a new room. Apologies and consolations. I appreciated that. He gave me a room on the 12th floor. I said my wife and I would come back after dinner to move rooms. Thankfully, I went up to check the room when we returned from dinner to see if the air conditioning was on and any better. I swiped the keycard and it failed. I swiped again and tried the door. The door locked from the other side. One of Kirt's colleagues had given my room away to someone else. Kirt apologized profusely and got me a room on the 11th floor. After a while, the air was working. Folks, this is just my experience and opinion of the place: six of us stayed here for work. I know five of us had issues with the air conditioning. Three of us had these kinds of service issues. The hotel itself, the breakfast, and the complimentary happy hour a few times a week are good - alas, the air conditioning debacle and very poor service leave much to be desired. Buyer beware. Thanks again, Kirt - truly, you saved the day more than once.

Excellent hotel with friendly staff. The rooms were very clean and every detail thought of. Breakfast was serviceable Aircon works well and the noise level was very very quiet. Centrally located but I feel that the city of Birmingham is quite rough these days sadly (not the hotels fault). Short walking distance from New Street and Moor Street. Bullring 5 minutes away.

Stayed for two nights for a cricket game. The best part of the hotel was the kitchen breakfast staff. Having coeliac disease, it is not always possible to eat at buffets, but the staff, Francesca (not sure if I have the spelling correct), Sharon and the Saturday cook were wonderful. After speaking to them, they cooked my gf toast in the kitchen and prepared a hot meal for me from scratch including eggs, bacon and baked beans. The serving size they prepared for me was enormous. Thank you so much for making my meal safe. The room itself was ok. The air conditioning did not cool the room enough and it was hot and stuffy overnight. The rest was functional and served our purpose without being what I would consider nice. The hotel is equipped with a laundry which we didn’t need, but is useful for longer stays, if required. The location was another positive. A short walk from New Street Train Station and close to city attractions and food outlets.
