  We come every year to stay in birmingham for HOYS at the nec and the last 3 years we have stayed in numerous hotels and air bnbs and nothing compares to how wonderful and affordable this place was. The staff were super friendly and helpful always walking around with a smile on their faces the rooms were incredibly clean and comfortable too The bar was open late too with a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend this place if you want affordable place right next to Birmingham New Street Station

  It's very rare I feel moved to write a review, but I am doing so after the exceptional service and kindness we received from Sue and James at the Premier Inn Birmingham New Street. We found ourselves unexpectedly in need of a room in Birmingham at 1am on a Friday night. My daughters were quite upset and panicked. We made our way to the door of the hotel where the security guard took us in, assured us we were safe, and went up with us where he spoke with James to explain our situation. Once James had ascertained room availability, he called Sue and went off to get us all a glass of water. Sue then appeared and instantly calmed my daughters, assuring them everything was ok, and asking them all about the band we'd seen. Then, as Sue got us booked in, James took over talking to my daughters in such a lovely positive way - this really made them feel much better. They made sure we had everything we needed (even offering to charge our phones for us overnight), made up a room for us, and made sure we were ok before leaving us to get some rest. They could have turned us away - or they could have just found us the room and done nothing more. But they were so kind and reassuring that they turned what could have been a really unpleasant experience into a positive one . We're so grateful. They (and the security guard - whose name I didn't get) really deserve recognition for this. They were all outstanding.

  I stayed here again and it seems as if the broken record player which plays downstairs at the entrance is still going and it's not music it's literally very weird musical instruments like a bell ringing it's not nice classical music and I could again here it from the room the staff are lovely and very friendly and the food is great. But please please ask the council to turn that of during the day when people are at work or at night after 10pm I understand why they play it but it really doesn't sound good and makes people very frustrated

  After being told there was a breakfast buffet, it turned out this entailed waiting for a significant amount of time at the entrance, while the one member of staff served the entire dining room. Then, once that one member had time to seat whoever was waiting at the podium, she happily and loudly sang out to the entire dining room my room number to confirm my payment details, not so great for security and safety. along with security, efficiency is clearly not a concern, as this wait at the podium for ages was the repeated requirement every day I had to use the dining plan, which I eventually cancelled, and they took months to reimburse me for. also, the breakfast made me quite ill, I was vomiting rotten eggs through out the day I had to face after staying here. While the hotel itself was comfortable and clean, perhaps they might hire some capable staff.

  I've stayed in a lot of Premier Inns both for leisure and business. Location is great if you want to be close to the station and centre of Birmingham. Room and bed is the usual Premier Inn standard, so bed is very comfortable. The biggest issue was the evening meal. It took about 45 minutes from sitting at the table to ordering and be served with a drink. There were 2 people serving and 6 tables to serve! Then after about an hour, they brought my starter and main course at the same time! They couldn't bring me another steak, as that was the last one, so I ended up with a dry and burnt steak! The menu is now very limited, but that seems to be the same with a lot of restaurants nowadays, where they have reduced the number of items on the menu. If this is the level of the service and food with the new setup for Premier Inns, then they will lose a lot of customers, as the only thing that distinguished them from Travelodges was that if you were in a location out of a town then at least there was a restaurant that you could eat at on site. Travelodge have been upgrading their rooms and beds, so they are of a similar standard. There is no way that I would eat at one of these Premier Inn restaurants now, so I would choose somewhere else. The breakfast was fine and the member of staff that was running the breakfast service was very friendly and attentive, despite it being a lot busier. It was obviously a self-service buffet breakfast and therefore he didn't need to take orders or bring food. So, if you want a centrally located hotel, then it is great. Just don't have an evening meal, even if it seems like good value by having the meal deal!
