The front desk clerk at check-in was phenomenal. John was a pleasure to work with. He was friendly, energetic, and made the arrival experience enjoyable.
Unfortunately, everything after that went downhill. After dropping our bags in the room, we left to grab dinner since we had been traveling all day. When we returned and began unpacking, we quickly noticed that the room was extremely unsatisfactory in terms of cleanliness.
That same night, we contacted the hotel via text to report that our room was filthy. Throughout our stay, we brought these issues to hotel management multiple times, yet nothing was meaningfully resolved.
The shower had black hair all over the walls, to the point that we had to clean it ourselves before using it. The toilet was visibly dirty and appeared not to have been wiped down at all. The bathroom floors were unclean, and the carpets in the room had clearly not been vacuumed.
Despite daily complaints, no proper corrective action was taken. The hotel manager ultimately offered a $50 discount for two nights, which felt more like a way to avoid addressing the problem rather than actually fixing it.
To make matters worse, the noise level around 2:00 AM with cars revving engines made it nearly impossible to get any rest until the early morning hours.
We truly wish we had chosen a different place to stay. The lack of cleanliness was unacceptable, and it was disappointing that staff seemed more willing to offer a discount than to properly clean the room or correct the issues. I will never stay at this hotel again.

Hazardous chemical smell and unacceptable service
I am extremely disappointed in this Holiday Inn. Our room had an overwhelming smell of chlorine that never went away. It was strong enough that we woke up in the middle of the night with sore throats.
When we called the front desk for help, we were told there were no other rooms available. Worse, they refused to issue a refund because we had "already spent a few hours in the room." It is unbelievable that a major hotel chain would allow guests to stay in a room that poses a health risk and then refuse to make it right. Dangerous and disappointing.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Savannah Historic District while traveling with our dog (Lab) and booked under the pet rate, which we found to be reasonable compared to other options in Savannah.
The hotel is a bit worn and could use some updating, but as a place to rest your head after a full day out, it works well, especially if you’re traveling with a pet. Overall, we’d consider this a solid three-star Holiday Inn.
The staff at the hotel were extremely welcoming and accommodating.
Valet parking is mandatory and operated by a third party. While the valet staff were very professional and easy to work with, they did seem understaffed. When we arrived, the limited driveway created backups and a bit of chaos as cars waited to be parked. However, once settled in, retrieving our car was smooth and efficient.
Traveling with our dog, we didn’t locate an official pet area at the hotel, but we did find a spot just across the street near the Maritime Museum, a tucked-away parking lot with a private feel and a nice grassy area that worked perfectly for walking our dog.
The location of this hotel is excellent: just a block from City Market and a short walk to the riverfront, placing you right in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and within easy reach of restaurants, shops and sights.
We would recommend the Holiday Inn Savannah Historic District for travelers, especially those with pets, who want a great location and comfortable stay.

$45 for parking was outrageous. Breakfast not included at this location, although it was basically the same as the breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express locations. The complimentary coffee was cold and leftover from the day before.
We stayed for two nights right after Christmas. Our room was 335, which smelled like wet dog and was extremely noisy with street noise until all hours of the night. After the first night we asked to switch rooms and reception said they were all booked - except I was able to pretend book a room online, so not sure why they said that. The hotel is also on the outskirts of the historic area, which is very close to the Plant Riverside complex but also right next to an abandoned housing complex, so not the safest area if you go the wrong way. However if you go the right way, there is a plethora of restaurants to choose from and an easy walk to Broughton Street shopping. Hotel parking is valet only unless you can find street parking (which is only free in the evening and on Sundays) so we parked 10 minutes away at a lot with in and out privileges. Amenities are very basic with Dove branded shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash and lotion. There is no closet to hang anything so we had to place everything on top of the desk. The only pluses were the in room microwave and the medium sized mini fridge.
I would suggest the Holiday Inn Express, which is a block from the middle of the bustling River Street area and a much better area.
