As others have noted the ac/heater system is an issue. My room was constantly 73 degrees no matter what buttons were pressed on the old and obviously broken system. Windows couldn't be opened so I had to stay in a much too warm room. Bathroom was missing soap. Housekeeping came up to replace and told me that it should have been replaced--okay-but it wasn't. No option to take staircase which is preferable than elevator especially for just one floor. Shuttle was a plus. Rate was good and room was clean and bed comfortable but the ac/heater system is a huge issue and they need to be replaced,.

We booked this hotel for overnight stay after a late night flight. Our flight was delayed several times pushing our check in time back from 12am to about 3am. The shuttle from the airport runs 24hrs and we had no problem checking in at 3am in the morning. We requested late check out and they were accommodating. The room was very clean. There was NO smell of smoke upon room entry. The complimentary breakfast was great! Not sure is this was the norm but they have actual orange juice in their dispenser.... not that orange flavored water that is normally in these hotels and that was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast area was very very clean. This will be our first option moving forward when needing to book a room for Atlanta.

This place isn't a total dump, so I won't give it less than 3 stars, but it's bad enough that I can't give it more. First, the location is great. You can actually walk here from the airport train station if you're so inclined. But the worst part of the hotel is the fact that neither of the two stairwells accesses the main floor. That is just unbelievably stupid. I'm not sure what idiot came up with that design (which I've never found in any other hotel), but having to stand and wait for an elevator, to just go up or down a couple of floors, is infuriating.
Overall, the room was okay, but my sink drain had a hole in it, so it leaked all over the floor when I brushed my teeth. I have no idea how the cleaning staff wouldn't notice something like that and get it fixed. Tubs with shower curtains are just so old and outdated in hotels, so they need a renovation here.
They don't bother to set back any clocks after the time change. In the fitness center, the a/c doesn't work and the bottle filler in the water fountain was also broken. Another big complaint with HIE in general is that their pancakes are absolute GARBAGE. They're always undercooked and taste like crap. IHG needs to get rid of those stupid things and go to a waffle maker like all the better hotels do (which includes their biggest competition, Hampton and Fairfield). I come to ATL a lot, but I won't stay here again.

Upon arrival the front desk are rude ask for a $100 "security" deposit. I gave my card which they then said they refunded on checkout (they hadn't checked the room so how did they know there was no damage?) 16 days later I'm still waiting for the refund. They said wait 2-3 days, then 7-10 days. My bank says it is pending & not refunded by merchant. I have to wait another 2 weeks for the bank to automatically cancel the transaction once it is "unclaimed". No answer when you call. So they will keep my $100 "security" deposit for an entire month.... Do not recommend this facility & these shady practices.
Late night shuttle does not run on time so took an entire hour to get from the airport to the hotel after a long flight.
