This review is not intended maliciously, though I would have been livid if I had paid full price. I think the manager needs to bring some kids in their family that haven't been to see it the way customers do. It's embarrassing. You go in and make a minifig you don't get to keep. Immediately, you encounter the big broken photo booth, then the minifig photo booth (the only thing to even do with those things that you have to help your child keep up with), and it's disgusting and won't even hold up the minifig because it's too dirty or worn [pictured]. The next thing is the laser ride. 25% of the targets do not respond to the laser. A small child isn't going to understand this and try another target. They're going to keep shooting the same target saying, "Why isn't this working?" and wonder why they ended up with a score of 700. Also, the screens are too dim. After that, there's the VR ride. The kids really enjoyed it, but the duplo desk inside is covered in grime with a layer of hairy dust. The Atlanta model is underwhelming, and half of the buttons don't work. There was a window in there to see a master builder, and he did have some cool stuff, though he was gone probably doing a class when we passed through.
The next thing is a huge room which contains the food area (did not use), baby area (did not use), area to make a car and ramp it, make a rocket and fly it (digitally), playground, and movie theater. The kids loved making a car and ramping it. The real legos in this area didn't look that dirty, though if it's because they're cleaned or the dirt gets polished off by all the fingers, I don't know. The ground of the playground was dirty [pictured], and the big rubbery lego blocks were grimy [pictured]. Next, we watched one of the movies, fifteen-minutes with little to it, though my kids liked it. It's just a vehicle for delivering the "4D" stuff. They spray you with water (too much and smells funky. Safe to breathe?). The bubbles didn't work. The fans were good, mostly because they helped dry the water. The seats are cracked and dirty. Lights flashed randomly, distracting rather than adding to the experience.
After that, we did the rockets. You build one and put it in a scanner, which creates an image that you can fly around the screen, "discovering" planets and blasting targets. The game is fun, but fewer than half of the stations worked [the entire half pictured is broken, plus more broken on the other side], so there weren't enough stations.
The family restroom was clean. The store had fun things and prices were not more than other places [sticker on the bottom, not on the shelf]. The slots where the cups were supposed to be for loose legos were empty and dirty, indicating they never take the time to stock them, even though the cashier was just standing there.
Basically, it seems that zero percent of the high regular ticket price is going into maintenance, and none of the employees, while they were courteous, think it's their job to clean anything ever. It wasn't busy when we went, and there were employees just standing around. Yet, the cashier didn't even take a few steps over with a rag to clean the dusty cup slots? One of the people manning the empty laser ride couldn't step over and clean the minifig photo booth right next to them? I used to work retail. This is not an unusual expectation. The place reflects poorly on Atlanta and the Lego brand name.
You see the responses to the reviews. They know but change nothing. Supposedly they had a 5 million dollar renovation just like 2 or 3 years ago, but it doesn't look like it. This place is run by people who simply DO NOT CARE... which is extra sad because it's for kids. We are not rich people and could afford to come as a birthday present for my daughter. But they just do not care if your kid's birthday is like Krabby Land from Spongebob (iykyk). Thankfully, my daughter is young enough not to notice a lot of that stuff and still had fun, but she said on the ride home she would have had just as much fun at the local minigolf.
