Hotel Review – Best Western Waldo, Florida
I spent several days at the Best Western in Waldo, Florida, and overall, it delivered an acceptable stay—functional, but with several issues that future guests should be aware of.
The property offers the standard continental breakfast you would expect at most mid-tier hotels: toast, bagels, basic eggs and sausage, and a waffle maker. Unfortunately, the waffle maker was down for the majority of my visit, which removed one of the few “elevating” breakfast items from the experience. Cable television options were notably limited, and the remote was cumbersome to use, though the abundance of power outlets throughout the room was genuinely appreciated.
Room infrastructure, however, showed signs of deferred maintenance. One of the closet doors would not open, the shower controls were inverted—hot where cold should be and vice versa—and the toilet struggled to flush consistently. Guests should also note that housekeeping is not automatic; you must request room service if you want your linens refreshed or trash removed during your stay.
The bed consisted of a thin mattress placed on a metal frame, and the pillows were so insubstantial that you realistically needed several stacked just to sleep comfortably. One fellow guest referred to them, quite accurately, as “poverty pillows.” Finally, the room door did not latch shut on its own, which raises a legitimate security concern for any traveler.
In fairness, the stay was not without redeeming qualities—the room was sufficiently clean, the appliances functioned, and the staff were polite. But the property would benefit from targeted reinvestment to bring it up to the standard travelers expect from the Best Western brand.
If you need a place to rest for a night along the route, this hotel will meet basic requirements. But travelers seeking comfort, reliability, and fully functioning amenities may find better value elsewhere unless improvements are made.
