By far, the WORST customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel! I arrived at the Hotel Alba Tampa on 18th Oct at 7pm with my wife and daughters, following a long flight from the UK, to be told by the reception desk that I couldn't check-in, as the booking made through Travel Republic hadn't been paid for by the TR. I have never experienced such unhelpful hotel staff and terrible customer service. The reception staff refused to offer any help to resolve the situation, refusing to make any calls on our behalf, simply repeating that we should call the TR customer services telephone number, even after pointing out it was past midnight in the UK.
Even when asking if I could pay once again for the room I had already paid for and was booked in my name, they refused and said the only room available was a poolside suite at a cost of nearly $450 per night, double the cost of the room I had already paid for.
After an hour of arguing with the reception staff, my daughter found a lady in the bar area that came to assist and after the hotel staff spent a further 15 minutes in their office debating the situation, they finally agreed to assist and 'found' a telephone number based in the US that they said I had to call, as they were not permitted to call on our behalf.
This treatment was disgusting and very stressful, the reception staff were quite content to see me walk out of the hotel with my wife and daughters late at night to search for another hotel to stay at, even though they had my booking and the hotel room was available - we frequently asked to speak to the Manager of the hotel but was told this wasn't possible.
There are limited positives for this hotel, the staff in the restaurant were very nice, however the bar was frequently left unmanned, the rooms are average and the hotel is situated close to a very busy highway.
The booking issue has been raised with Travel Republic who have subsequently investigated - Hotel Alba advised TR that there were some booking issues, however these were promptly resolved - this a blatant lie, from a Hotel whos staff have no regard for their customers and is totally lacking in management.

We stayed here for 2 nights in mid-September 2025 for a concert. I picked this hotel because it had great reviews, it looked nice in pictures, had a nice pool and pool bar, had interesting activity options in case of rain (foosball and shuffle board), and because of the complimentary airport shuttle. The start of our experience was disappointing, and the rest of our experience was decent, but not great.
Our key takeaways:
-Airport shuttle is unreliable for airport pickup, but okay for airport dropoff
-Room was mostly nice, but needed some maintenance/repairs
-Hotel restaurant's evening hours are unclear, as they seem to include bar-only service in the overall opening hours. Food was good, was timely for breakfast but but took a long time at night.
-Room service hours seem to be limited and it's unclear what they actually are
-Hotel bars seem to be understaffed in the evenings, especially for folks who want to order food
-Pool and pool bar are very nice, but staff is slow to replenish towels and does not enforce against guests playing loud music when the hotel is already playing music
The details:
Before our arrival, I called and asked about how to arrange shuttle to pick us up from the airport. The staff told us the pickup location options and said that we should call the hotel once we got to the pickup location, and that the shuttle should arrive shortly because the hotel is only 10 mins away. After calling and letting them know we were ready to be picked up, we waited almost an hour for the hotel's shuttle, but it never came (despite the hotel staff saying it was en route when I called to check where it was about halfway through our wait). We gave up waiting and paid for a taxi/Uber/Lyft.
At check-in, we were nice but did express our frustration with the hour-long wait for a no-show shuttle. We received the weakest of apologies for the inconvenience, and 2 vouchers for free drinks at the bar. I don't like that this was the remedy, as you never know who cannot consume alcohol. I was pregnant so the voucher was a waste for me.
By the time we got to the hotel and checked in, it was 9:30 PM and we were starving. Room service was not available at that time. Despite it being a Friday evening, many of the restaurants in the area were already closed. The hotel restaurant, The Spaniard, was also closed (it was supposed to be open until 10 PM), but there was a hotel bar serving food. However, there was only 1 bartender handling orders, drinks, food running, etc. for a decent crowd. She was very pleasant and doing her best, but was overwhelmed. We waited 30 min for the food, but it was good. They did not charge for my non-alcoholic drink, which was appreciated.
Our room was nice and spacious and fairly modern. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were decently firm compared to the overly squishy garbage you get at most hotels. However, the door to the bathroom was misaligned and rubbed against the door frame, making lots of noise every time we opened and closed it. The shower head was also worn down and in need of some maintenance. We found a large cockroach one day. I get that it's late summer in Florida and bugs happen, but still, gross. Also, the room next to us was playing loud music one day and you could hear it clearly through the walls.
We did have breakfast at the hotel restaurant both days. The wait staff were great, the food was timely, and the food was great. Yay!
We spent most of Saturday by the pool before our concert. The pool was sizeable and appeared clean. It was busy but there were always some chairs available, with mostly sunny options and some shady areas too. Downsides were that staff were slow to replenish towels and they allowed a group of guests to play loud music on their personal speaker despite different music coming from the hotel speakers. The bar next to the pool was nice, and they also did not charge for my non-alcoholic drink.
When it came time to leave on Sunday, thankfully the shuttle actually came through. We waited maybe 10-15 min for it to arrive, and it was a quick trip to the airport.
