Honestly, there are many factors why it is a 1 star, but this is my reasons: I absolutely hate this hotel. I traveled with family, and we couldn't even get through the night, but we had to, because by then it was about midnight. This hotel for us was not even worth the $106 per night. On the bottom, the pool is gross, the hot tub is blocked off with caution tape, and is gross. The breakfast is gross, and the apple looks like it has been there for ages. The eggs, and sausage, and some other stuff were in a pot kind of thing were it made a very loud and annoying screeching sound to open, and it was hard to open. The sink water was foggy. The carpet was gross. The lamp had some kind of stuff on it. The microwave dials were yellow, and it had fingerprints all over it. And the walls were textured weirdly, so that I felt uncomfortable to even touch it. The bathroom door was warped so badly that we couldn't even open/close it whithout having to struggle, and disturb the room, and possibly other rooms by the loud noise it produces. There was a cleaning lady that tried to come in 3 times in one day. (That is technically against the law, and a very big invasion of privacy.) The staff there acted like this was the worst thing they could be doing right now. The back door had duct tape in it, and it was blocked off so no one could go in, but they could only come out. The room smelled bad. The location is a one star because it is so tricky to get out of the parking lot, because there is a busy road next to it.

I am a mother of 3 staying at the Best western Newark/Christiana on route 40 in Bear,De! I have been staying here with my children for approximately 2 months. This past weekend there had been 2 instances where the management team “claims I have not paid” when I have reservations and confirmation numbers saying I have paid. The management team was very unsympathetic and rude in addressing the situation. The first inconvenience came out of our pockets resulting in a double charge and the second he expects us to pay including the current reservation we have. I am outraged and very disappointed with this situation. Best westerns hospitality is lacking and they do not care about the customers being accommodated only to overcharge paying families. I’m not sure if it’s racism or sexism but please do not get ripped out of your money like I did.

Never will I ever stay here again. ZERO STARS This was, without exaggeration, the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. When we checked in, there was a bucket in the middle of the lobby catching water from a leaking ceiling. This was not a temporary situation. It was still there hours later and into the next morning, blocking foot traffic and looking filthy. The room was just as bad. Cracked walls, itchy sheets, and terrible pillows. The real issue was the bugs. At 2am, when we finally got into bed after a long day, we found silverfish crawling all over the sheets and mattress. I can’t believe I even have to say this, but a hotel bed should never be crawling with insects. Tiny bugs should not be running across your body while you try to sleep. Absolutely revolting. The pool area was unusable. It smelled awful, the water was cloudy and freezing, and the hot tub was broken. We stayed here a year ago and it was clean and functional, so the decline is honestly shocking. What made this even worse was the response from staff. When we told the front desk about the bugs, the employee just smiled and laughed. She did nothing to help. There was no apology, no manager, and no attempt to fix the situation. That level of indifference is unacceptable. Now I’m left worrying about bringing bugs home and having to deep clean everything. Avoid this place.
