  I’m writing this review because I strongly advise you to avoid this hotel. We stayed here recently for a family vacation and we were very underwhelmed. Our room was tight and uncomfortable, including an awful bed. It had barely been cleaned upon entry because we could see little things on the floor that were missed by the vacuum. As soon as we turned the shower on the entire bathroom stunk of mildew. The walls of the hotel are extremely thin, and we could hear people next door, making noise all through the night. My young children even said how difficult it was for them to sleep. On the second day of our stay, our room was never cleaned despite us being out for many hours during the day. When we informed the hotel of this, they did apologize and they gave us a few waters and fresh towels. This hotel is located conveniently near train tracks that handle Virginia regional and freight trains. They run throughout the evening until around 10 or 11 PM and begin conveniently at 3:50 AM. The trains blow a loud whistle and shake the entire place when they come by. The only somewhat positive is the location to the metro, which is a short walk away. Staying here was not cheap and for so many reasons I wanted to write this reviewed to inform others. We will never stay here again.

  Good budget option for travel to DC. The staff here is fantastic, quick response to any issue. We had a problem with the room refrigerator and someone was up to fix it in 5 minutes. Later that night another issue where the water in the shower wouldn't cut off. While they couldn't fix that, they did try and then transferred us to another room that had zero issues. There is a snack area that sells essentials, drinks, small pharmacy type items and quick foods. It's open 24 hrs and you pay for everything at the little side window. On the 2nd floor is a decent coin op laundry facility with a working coin dispenser and you can get soap, softner and dryer sheets here too. 9th floor has a pool and workout room. Elevators are fast but you do have to use room key to access them. The daily housekeeping staff are on the ball too. Everything is nice when they leave.

  The good: the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is great! Close to most attractions. The bad: the rooms are out dated and in dis repair. Had 2 different rooms over a 5 day stay, both smelled terrible. Also, the pool is seasonal, our family chose this hotel partially because of the pool and it was closed during our stay. Does not state this on the website. The ugly: DONT PLAN ON GETTING ANY REST! The walls are paper thin, the A/C units sound like a jet engine and the hotel is adjacent to the railroad tracks. Choo, choo ALL NIGHT LONG!

  This Hotel hits all the right notes, but our concierge Kenny was a bright spot of our stay. He was helpful, courteous, and most important he was the kindest soul. I recommend this centrally located Hotel for the National Mall and Museums. Get on the Metro at Reagan Airport head straight to this Holiday Inn and enjoy everything this town has to offer. Kenny shines brightly and can't be missed, use him to answer any questions you might have to make your stay more enjoyable.

  First the positives: reasonably priced; excellent location (walking distance) to all the major museums, monuments, and Metro station; and the staff are wonderful (special mention to Eric the bartender in the hotel bar/restaurant). The negatives: this hotel is very popular with high school tour groups, so noise can be an issue. Also given the current political situation, it is also used to house the National Guard, who tend to keep irregular hours. (I had to move my room mid-stay as the room next door had the evening troops coming back at 2am (and partying until 6am). The downright scary: if privacy is a concern for you, you may want to avoid using the shower. The air vent is wall-mounted and you can see directly into the shower in the room next door! See the photo from room 206 (lights off) looking into room 208 (lights on). Unbelievable that they wouldn't offset these vents...
