I came in to book a room and was immediately met with what felt like unnecessary aggression and hostility when I mentioned that I had come from Mexico. As a result, I no longer felt comfortable or safe staying at this location and requested to cancel my reservation and receive a refund.
When I expressed my concerns and asked for a manager’s contact information, the employee was initially reluctant to provide it. I then requested a business card, which was eventually given to me. I also asked the employee to write down his name so I could accurately reference the interaction when speaking with management. He refused, stating that it was not necessary. When I explained that I wanted to ensure I gave a clear and accurate account of the situation, he again declined. Upon asking once more, he shoved the pen in my face in an abrupt and dismissive manner and told me to write it down myself. He was not wearing a name tag; however, he stated that his name is Fernando.
Additionally, my partner, who is a white man, had entered the establishment before me and was treated politely and respectfully. The contrast in how we were treated was both noticeable and concerning.
Overall, the interaction left me feeling shocked, uncomfortable, and unwelcome. I believe this situation deserves attention, as no guest should be made to feel unsafe or dismissed in this manner.

A man fallowed my sister and I to our room, when we confronted the man he ran, and we spoke to the hotel lobbyists and she stated “oh I know him he’s harmless” and we proceeded back to our room where the man came out of the gym and attempted to fallow us again. He then went to the lobbyist laughing with her as we were horrified, calling my sister sweetheart. We had hotel security walk us to our room. We are leaving ASAP.

Stayed here 4 nights. Front desk was nice. Room was nice, bed was comfortable. Updated except for the bathroom. Black mold and spots on the ceiling, tub was old. Hotel layout is very inconvenient with many rooms being a long ways from the lobby and amenities, not to mention the $15 a night parking in the basement, also very inconvenient. Dirty parking garage, limited spots near elevator, others filled with their construction materials, felt sketchy, smelled like weed, and the elevators didn't work half the time. Should not have to pay for this. Key cards didn't work in the elevator to get to the second floor either. They admitted trouble with the elevator and said someone was coming to look at it. Wifi did not work most of the time. Nice big new TV but couldn't use any streaming services. Hot tub was full of foam and not usable. Overpriced for all the hassles.

Hotel is a maze, but staff are friendly and check in was great. Breakfast was okay, but the Coffee is terrible. Starbucks is not far from the hotel.

HI Express in Walnut Creek is very accessible from the freeway and Fernando, Night Auditor/ Manager is always pleasant and thoughtful every time I stay at this place. He looks out for the comfort of his guests and provide clear directions on the location of the rooms and amenities. Fernando is a positive asset to HI Express staffing roster for sure.
