Although this Holiday Inn is in transition to become a boutique hotel, and the lobby, restaurant and pool are still under construction, the rooms and hallways are done and they are fantastic! I'm so glad I found it and stayed for 2 nights. They did a really great job with the decor and the details and once it's all done it will be a gem! There was absolutely no disruption due to the ongoing construction - they were very considerate. Great management and front desk staff. I loved staying here and will return.

The lady serving breakfast was excellent. Humble and helpful. She did amazing! It wasn't the normal breakfast menu due to construction, but she made it work!! I was happy and full! Tasty things to eat and drink. The front desk person was very nice and thoughtful. Would totally recommend and come back. My room view and of sun and sky was so refreshing and the balcony encouraged me to open the sliding door for air and sun for as long as the sun was out!

The room was nice but for the price the hotel was lacking. It was under remodel but wasn't open and conducive to many normal conveniences. The breakfast was best effort. They did their best, but it wasn't what I'd expect for the price. The pool was closed and empty. The room key cards don't let you back inside from outside. Your only option is then a single, very slow, elevator which clanks and shifts. Many fun comments on those elevator rides. I'm not knocking the effort. I'm not satisfied with the price considering the accommodations.

This stay came up short from the previous stays at a Holiday Inn Express. After speaking to the front desk, they said it is transitioning into a Voco Lana Hotel and will not remain an Holiday Inn Express. While the location was key for our stay, the facilities fell short of expectations. The pool and spa were not in service, there was no place for breakfast, and our room was not cleaned while we stayed (we had to go downstairs to grab a trash bag to take our trash out) and had to ask for fresh towels. Beyond that, the staff was very nice. If we had to choose, we would not stay at this property for the price we paid. I would have expected a lower rate with the amount of amenities available.

This Holiday Inn Express is currently being remodeled and will be rebranded a "voco," another type of (fancier/nicer) IHG hotel. I received this information from some staff members. In the interim, the pool and hot tub are closed, as well as the breakfast and reception areas. They have tried to set up a grab-and-go breakfast, but it's not great as you have to either eat in your room or find somewhere else (not at the hotel) to eat. I definitely see the staff trying to make the hotel a nice place to stay regardless of the closures, but it's just not possible. I generally agree with the other 1-star reviews that this hotel is lacking many of the basic amenities it should have. The staff is generally friendly and accommodating, but also too disorganized to provide good service. We've stayed here often due to my spouse's work, and request late check out as we are checking in every time. Our keys still stop working at the normal check out time, and last time they were cleaning the room already when I tried to get back in. The sliding key card that allows you access through the exterior side doors of the building also frequently stop working after a few days. I used to prefer this hotel over the other nearby hotel due to the nice breakfast area, but we now prefer the other hotel. However, it is usually fully booked hence why we continue to stay here. Therefore, I am grateful to have a place to stay in this area, but keep your expectations low. The location is good for walking to the beach and businesses in Solana Beach, and it's near my spouse's workplace. EDIT: The Wi-Fi also doesn't work anymore due to the remodeling.
