Stayed one night at this place. The property feels old and relies heavily on its legacy. The room has minimal amenities — no coffee machine, no toiletries, minibar, or even bottled water — and there was no help with luggage, with the staff polite but indifferent. I moved to the other Intercontinental in SFO that turned out to be cheaper, newer, more central, and had much better service. At ~$800 a night - I don’t know what I was paying for - felt like a unnecessary premium is for staying on Nob Hill rather than in a good hotel

The experience fell materially below the standard advertised and expected from a property of this reputation and pricing. Within a 24-hour period, I was required to move rooms three times due to ongoing issues that should have been identified and resolved prior to guest arrival. Most critically, the Wi-Fi and mobile signal in the rooms were effectively unusable. As a business guest, reliable connectivity is not optional — it is essential. Because my phone could not connect and I was unable to take calls or respond to clients. This is a direct consequence of the hotel’s failure to provide functioning connectivity. Additionally: The first room was not of the advertised standard and had visible damage. The second room had a blocked bath drain, rendering the bathroom facilities unusable. The third room had a broken window that would not close so the noise from the street kept me up - when reported nothing was done despite constant reminders. The repeated room moves caused significant disruption, loss of working time, and unnecessary stress. These are not minor inconveniences. They represent a systemic failure in room quality control and guest service. At this level of hotel, I expect operational competence, accurate representation of rooms, and reliable infrastructure — particularly for business travellers. I would not stay here again, much better options for the price.

Absolutely appalling experience with the hotel manager Diane. Would recommend staying at the Fairmont or Ritz nearby instead Property has fallen into deep disrepair, rooms have no fridge, water is available only at the lobby via a shared machine Guests who have been returning to this hotel for the last twenty years, shared with us how disappointing the service has gotten It is a real shame when poor management results in a once great property falling into such disrepair Unworthy of the Intercontinental brand name - which is why the owners have been trying to sell it since Covid, but nobody wants to own a depreciating asset

I recently stayed at InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco by IHG, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The hotel itself has a very old, outdated feel with a noticeable, unpleasant smell. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of renovation. Even the small details reflected poor quality — the toilet paper was barely one-ply and difficult to reach, and the tissues provided were equally cheap. There was nothing about the stay that felt special or worth the price. The most frustrating part of my experience was with valet parking. When I dropped off my vehicle, the valet attendant performed a walk-around inspection and did not point out any pre-existing damage. However, when I picked up my car, there were visible black marks on both the driver and passenger side, along with fingerprints where someone had clearly attempted to wipe the damage off. When I questioned the valet attendant who retrieved my vehicle, I was told the damage was already there — which was absolutely not the case. I immediately filed a claim with the hotel/valet company, and it was denied in less than 24 hours with no clear explanation of how the investigation was conducted. The garage is extremely narrow and tight, which is likely why guests are required to stop and allow attendants to park the vehicles. We paid over $85 per day (over $170 total with tax) for parking, only to receive a damaged vehicle back and a denied claim. The lack of accountability and professionalism is extremely disappointing. If there had truly been pre-existing damage, it should have been documented during the initial walk-through. Instead, I am left with damage and no transparency in the claims process. I will not be returning and would strongly encourage others to consider alternative hotels. As a loyal Marriott member, this experience only reinforced why I typically choose Marriott properties. I am currently awaiting a response from the parking claims specialist regarding documentation supporting their denial. Very disappointing experience overall.

Total mess. First rooms had stains all over the carpet. They misadvertised a soaking tub and the thing was about a foot deep. For the price that’s not acceptable in a Junior Suite. They “upgraded” us but we had to join the ambassador club. The manager was new and did her best and we greatly appreciated it. However, this hotel has severe internal communication breakdowns. All of the amenities and rooms are extremely dated for a name like Intercontinental. My understanding is they’ll renovate after this Centennial year, but I think they waited too long. Our upgraded room was a corner unit with arguably the best rooms in the city. It may have been one of the few to be renovated. While tasteful, I’m not sure it’s what the market is looming for. Top of the Mark is also very dated. The windows were dirty, there wasn’t great music, the dining room echoed singular loud guests across the place. I wish they at least had a piano player every night given its stature and it being a Friday night. On the plus side, the drinks were good and surprisingly affordable so you can indulge without breaking the bank. I cannot say the same for the exorbitant room costs for what you get. For $50 and a mandatory tip, 2 people at the buffet breakfast will set you back $120. And that doesn’t include any alcoholic drinks. Although, they do offer smoked salmon which I took full advantage of. They also had free electric charging which was wonderful leaving with a full charge. Ric at the concierge desk is a gem and I hope they do everything to keep him there. The parking and other service staff were very kind but suffered from similar disorganization. The location is top tier for views, cleanliness and safety. You’ve got a beautiful park, historic churches and buildings right in front of you. You’re a stones throw from Polk street. Note, you’re in one of the highest points in the city so unless you plan on taking an Uber everywhere, plan to get a workout in (I love that). There are not the best restaurants in the vicinity and it’s very dead at night so also plan to venture further out. I hope that IHG can find their way as they enter the next century of their notable history. It’s a far cry from my stay 12 years ago but I wish them the best.
