We stayed at Homewood Suites for 10 days and were very disappointed. The majority of staff were rude and disengaged, often avoiding eye contact or basic greetings. Housekeeping put dirty dishes and cutlery back in cupboards, removed used towels without replacing them, and repeatedly ignored requests for dishwasher soap. When we asked for garbage pickup, a staff member silently handed us a garbage bag.
Fire alarms went off constantly in the mornings, with firefighters showing up at least once. The toilet noise from the room above was extremely loud (avoid suite 140). The hotel feels like it’s relying on cheap labor, and if this continues, it’s heading toward Motel 6 standards rather than Hilton.

Cockroaches, no service, zero accountability
Avoid this hotel – unacceptable experience for a Hilton property
This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever experienced, and absolutely unacceptable for a hotel carrying the Hilton name.
We arrived after 11:00 PM.
We were assigned Room 322. Within a minute of entering, we found small cockroaches running around the kitchen area and big one in thr restroom. I immediately left the room and went straight to the front desk. I have clear video evidence.
I stood at the front desk for around 30 minutes while staff debated what to do. During this time, I was actively trying to find another hotel, but my children were exhausted, and leaving in the middle of the night was not realistic.
Eventually, we were moved to Room 126.
Within five minutes of entering the new room, I requested extra pillows and a blanket. I was told that no staff was available and that I had to come pick them up myself — at a Hilton.
Inside this room, there was zero mobile phone signal Both Tmobile and Verizon, leaving us completely cut off and unable to communicate. I have photos proving this.
Because of the cockroach incident, my entire family felt extremely uncomfortable all night. My younger son was afraid to use the bathroom. No parent should ever have to deal with this in a hotel, let alone one marketed as family-friendly.
The front desk employee acknowledged the issue and promised a reasonable discount.
The next morning, the moment my phone finally connected to the network outside the room, I received a notification that an additional $105 had been charged to my card.
At the front desk, I was told to wait for the manager. When I finally spoke to her, she claimed the charge was simply the room price difference and said it would be refunded — as if that solved the problem.
I explained clearly: I did not request an upgrade. I was forced to move due to cockroaches.
Her response?
“No one complained about that room before.”
I told her I walked into the room, saw the cockroaches immediately, and left — and that I have video proof which I am more than willing to share publicly.
Her response was simply:
“That’s up to you.”
The only “compensation” offered was removing a $26 parking fee and not charging the room difference — which was never my responsibility in the first place.
This experience shows complete lack of accountability, poor management, and zero concern for guests. Hilton is supposed to represent quality and professionalism. This property represents the opposite.
I am sharing this review with videos and photos, and I will be escalating this matter to Hilton corporate. Guests deserve to know what they are walking into.

We’re long time Hilton customers so making our review with comparisons to other Homewood locations.
Pros: Friendly and helpful, working hard at all times. Quality of food very good. Staff responsive to customer wants. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. Location off the I-8 is excellent for proximity to San Diego attractions. Outdoor space is superb for playing games with family or enjoying coffee in the delightful California sunshine.
Cons: Although the facilities are nice they need to replace mattresses and the dated sofa sleeper. The room also lacked a desk or some type of office space for remote workers. Hotel seems short staffed especially in the kitchen area. The room lacked and tables, either dinette with chairs or low coffee table. Thus hard for playing games or eating meals in suite. Odd omissions like the coffee station with hot water but no tea or hot chocolate except during breakfast hours.
Overall a great experience but not the best Homewood in the Hilton portfolio.
