Price was ok for San Diego. Parking was an additional $25 a night which was insane, they should just include this price in the nightly rate so you’re not surprised, it adds up after a week! And there was no close, free parking nearby. Front desk staff were a bit of a gamble with a couple of them being friendly, some not caring at all, and others just being rude and short with guests. The breakfast place was alright, although overpriced, but the staff didn’t seem to pay any mind when I pointed out the ants crawling up the wall, she just said “oh, yeah, ants… again”. Didn’t offer to move us or apologize. One of the days my boyfriend and I were out and left our personal towels in the bathroom. I didn’t think this would be an issue because our towels are blue and the hotel towels are white. When we came back in the evening our personal towels were gone and our room had been cleaned. I thought it was odd but was thinking maybe they were just cleaning our own towels? I told the front desk and they said they alerted the house cleaning staff but I got no follow up. At checkout several days later, I brought it up and the man just said “oh yeah, that’s gonna take a while for them to find the towels”. So we provided our contact info hoping to get them back. Never contacted. I called back a couple times a few months later but kept getting transferred with no resolution. I finally got a manager on another call and he said the staff wouldn’t have taken towels except for the hotel ones. I said I understood and that’s why I was confused why they took them. In the end, I could have been compensated but he said I would need the original receipt from when we purchased the towels and I obviously didn’t just have those on hand anymore as they are years old. Still don’t know where our towels ended up. Disappointed.
We stayed here for three nights over the Presidents' Day holiday weekend. Except for exterior paint on walls facing the street, the entire property suffers from poor maintenance, everything from potholes in the parking lot to carpet stains in our room. The HVAC is inadequate and our room always had a "stuffy" odor, even after opening the windows (which had no screens). Service is also lacking. We checked in about an hour after posted check-in time and were sent to a room that hadn't been cleaned. No apologies, no offer of another room - we were just told to "hang out" in the lobby until they told us our room was ready (about 30 minutes). The just-cleaned room smelled strongly of bleach and was uncomfortable for the next hour or so even with the HVAC fan running and the windows open. We will *NOT* stay here again!

We had a very nice stay at the Handlery Hotel overall. The property was comfortable and we enjoyed our visit. We have also attended jazz concerts at the hotel and genuinely appreciate their commitment to supporting live jazz. That kind of community and arts support really matters to us and is one of the reasons we enjoy visiting the property.
Unfortunately, after checkout we realized we had left a personal item behind, a Musicozy sleep headphone headband. We contacted the hotel right away and initially worked with lost and found and housekeeping. Over the course of a week, we called at least four times and were told someone would follow up with us. No one ever did.
On our final call, I asked if someone in management could contact us and was told that would happen, but it did not.
We completely understand that lost items are not always recoverable. Our disappointment was simply the lack of follow-through and communication after multiple attempts to reach out.
We truly hope the hotel continues supporting live music and guest experiences. With improved follow-up and communication, this would easily remain a place we would enjoy returning to.

My recent stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing.
The guests in the room next to mine were talking and laughing very loudly until 12:00 AM. I contacted the front desk to report the disturbance, but no action was taken. The noise continued until 1:00 AM, which significantly disrupted my sleep.
The next morning, I spoke to the front desk staff about the situation. I was told that the manager would contact me regarding the issue. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up call.
It is unacceptable that a hotel would allow excessive noise to continue for hours after a complaint has been made. Even more disappointing was the lack of communication and follow-through from management. I expected much better service and consideration for paying guests.
I would not recommend staying here based on this experience.
Mixed experience. On the positive side, my van was ultimately safe while stored here and there were no break-ins or rodent issues.
That said, communication and treatment were poor. I emailed in advance to let them know I would be storing a van long-term and even offered to meet beforehand — no response. When I checked in with front desk staff, they didn’t seem concerned or interested.
A couple weeks later, I started receiving messages implying my van made hotel guests “uncomfortable” because it looked “lived in.” After that, I received repeated prompts asking me to leave reviews, which felt tone-deaf given the situation.
During a storm, they also tried to alarm me by implying my van may have flooded, which turned out not to be true.
When I finally returned from an extended trip, security approached immediately. While the guard did help jump-start the van (which I appreciate), he repeatedly made comments about homelessness and expressed doubt that the vehicle would start, emphasizing how old it looked.
Overall, while nothing was damaged and my van was technically safe, it was very clear I was not welcome. I wouldn’t store a vehicle here again.
