Generally fine stay with very pleasant and helpful housekeeping staff, but the front desk never picks up the phone. We understand the front desk might be understaffed, but as a guest, this really affects the quality of the stay. I would not come back to this hotel solely for this reason. I shouldn’t have to go down to the front desk in person and line up for 30 minutes just for a simple question. We hope management addresses this issue by properly staffing the front desk.

We were genuinely excited to stay at Crowne Plaza. The photos looked beautiful, and with an average rating close to 4 stars—which is increasingly rare—it felt like a solid choice for our trip. We were visiting as a family with my wife and our baby, so comfort and reliability were especially important to us.
The positives:
Check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. When we shared the inconveniences we experienced, the staff listened and kindly offered us a late checkout, which we appreciated and found very helpful, especially while traveling with a baby. We also purchased breakfast vouchers, and the breakfast service exceeded expectations—the servers were warm, accommodating, and attentive. While the selection was fairly basic, it included everything needed for a balanced breakfast, and the service truly stood out.
Where the experience fell short:
On our first night, after fully unpacking, we realized the refrigerator was not working. Later that evening, once we had settled in and fallen asleep, we discovered the air conditioning was also not functioning. To the hotel’s credit, the front desk acted quickly and moved us to a different room—but relocating rooms late at night with a baby, after unpacking, was quite inconvenient.
Additionally, the new room did not offer the same experience. Our original room had a beautiful, peaceful view of hillside homes and open sky. The replacement room faced a nearby construction site, which was a noticeable downgrade and disappointing given the reason for the move.
On our second day, we were out for the entire day and left the “please service room” sign on the door. When we returned around 6:00 p.m., we were surprised to find that housekeeping had not serviced the room at all. After a long day out, not having clean towels or a refreshed room was especially challenging. We contacted the front desk, and they promptly sent someone, but by that point we only accepted fresh towels—the intention was to have the room ready while we were away.
Overall, the stay was okay, but it didn’t fully match the price point or expectations set by the brand and reviews. For the cost, we feel we could have stayed somewhere more affordable that would have met our basic needs without the disruptions.
That said, the staff were consistently kind, responsive, and understanding, and we truly believe this experience does not reflect the standard Crowne Plaza aims to provide. We would consider staying again in the future and hope our feedback helps improve the experience for other families.

I recently spent 6 nights at the Crowne Plaza in Mission Valley, and while the stay was overall comfortable, there are a few things future guests should know.
The hotel is listed as a 4-star on some booking websites, but in reality, it feels more like a 3-star property. It’s an older hotel, and that definitely shows in places like the bathrooms, which are dated and in need of renovation. The rooms were clean, but they had that “old building” smell, which may bother some guests.
That said, the staff were absolutely wonderful—super friendly, helpful, and professional throughout my stay. Their service really helped improve the overall experience.
One downside: there’s no room service for breakfast, so if you’re hoping for food in the morning without leaving your room, you’ll have to make other plans. Also, the hotel is right next to the highway, which means you’ll need to drive pretty much everywhere—not ideal if you were hoping to walk to local spots.
On the plus side, there’s a nice pool area that would be great for families or anyone looking to relax outside.
All in all, not a bad stay, especially if you manage your expectations. Clean, quiet, friendly service but definitely not the luxury 4-star experience some listings suggest.

My finance and I booked this property in advance so that we can stay as there is a Christmas party nearby we are attending. We arrive and go inside to check in. I spoke with the supervisor that was onsite at the time and he was of 0 help. He stated that he couldn’t find my booking and I did not have one and from that point on told me I needed to contact the 3rd party that was used to book. Beyond that he was straight faced and just stated “I just work here. There’s nothing I can do.” The service I received is unacceptable as once I did contact the 3rd party all of a sudden they were able to find my reservation but then proceeded to state that they were cancelling my reservation. Whoever the supervisor that I spoke with is did not receive proper training and doesn’t know how to work in the service industry. 0 stars all around as there was 0 compassion or assistance. I will not be staying here again.

My family and I took a trip from Arizona to San Diego. What a wonderful stay at the Crowne.
We stayed at the Crowne after all other hotels seemed too steep in prices. That's typical during the holidays, but the Crowne was affordable. I am relieved I found this hotel, operated by IHG, as we had a calming experience.
The property is situated at hotel circle, and the entrance is well lit. The front door is accompanied by a water fountain down two small stairs, entering into the front lobby that was clean and modern. The receptionist greeted me right away when I entered while helping another customer. I HATE THAT I FORGOT HER NAME! She is a Black woman with braids and she efficiently and quickly checked our family into the hotel. I was also given a welcome bag with treats and a letter from the manager who thanked us for staying. Another staff member also greeted me, a man with glasses. Shout out to them for starting our vacation off fantastic!
We were given a parking pass for the parking area at the back of the hotel. They have PLENTY of parking, but the closest to the door are hard to come by. You must scan the pass to get in and out. Coming from the parking lot up a few stairs, the sliding glass door opens to mirrors in the entryway on both sides to a big courtyard with seating, ponds, and the elevators in the middle that were lit up on their sides. It was pretty awesome and tranquil!
They have hundreds of rooms, and we were located on the third floor. Our room overlooked an even BIGGER courtyard with a heated swimming pool, grass area for kids to play, and the mountains and freeway in the background. We also saw the jacuzzi, eating area, and several paths to go into the building and connecting rooms. I loved this room with two queen beds that were comfortable with pillows to match. The bathroom was clean, and they had a double sink. DOUBLE! I was overjoyed to see they had a balcony with drapes and a sliding glass window and a screen, and this helps families with kids especially!
They do serve breakfast you must pay for, and their breakfast was delicious, amazing, and colorful. The seating area was spotless and the serving area was neat. Juan is a server who was so welcoming, genuine and kind as we sat down to eat. He gave us high chairs for our daughters and made sure our drinks were filled. He made our stay more special as we were a little drained from the drive and having our girls. They also have a decent sized bar with a wide varitey, but we did not experience this. They did have people there at night watching television and having a good time. They also have a small 24 hour marketplace by reception with water, juice, milk, ice cream, and so many other items. Check out was just as quick and easy as checking in.
I will be coming back as it is close to all the entertainment and shops, and being 10 minutes from the beach is great! Absolutely loved it, definitely would recommend!
