Overall our stay was decent. It's a nice new hotel and the building itself is modern and safe. The area was hit or miss with some homeless/druggie types and tents nearby..I guess to be expected in most big cities these days? We did book a more expensive high floor room and were expecting some sort of view and were a bit disappointed to find out that our view was of the wall of the building next door but that's not really something we could have known. The rooftop restaurant was closed both times we attempted to go and the coffee in the lobby was hella expensive.. Think like $8 for a small latte? The hotel gave us a $15/day credit, but dayum who's paying $8 for a latte outside of Dean & DeLuca lol.

Our stay at Carte Hotel San Diego began with several serious issues that should never occur at a hotel of this caliber. Housekeeping did not clean our room on the first night. In addition, the shower leaked badly and flooded the bathroom floor. Most disruptive was the early-morning noise, amplified music, microphone announcements, and heavy bass that could be felt through the walls as early as 7:00 AM, making rest impossible. To the hotel’s credit, after raising these concerns we were moved to a room on the opposite side of the building, which was noticeably quieter and slightly more spacious. I want to specifically acknowledge Laila at the front desk, who handled the situation with professionalism, empathy, and genuine care. She was apologetic, respectful, and did everything she could to help. She’s an example of excellent customer service. That said, guests should not have to experience missed housekeeping, flooding bathrooms, and event-level noise before receiving a livable room. These are fundamental hospitality failures and point to broader oversight and soundproofing issues within the property. While the situation improved, the overall experience still falls well below expectations. Management should address these systemic problems so staff like Laila aren’t left fixing issues that should never reach guests in the first place.

We loved our stay at Carte! The hotel has a fun, modern feel. The room was nice and we had a lovely city view from a higher floor room. The gym amenities were a great addition - we participated in a yoga class and loved the experience. Jordan from the front desk had excellent recommendations for activities, including the farmer’s market, restaurants, and festive cocktail bars - all walkable from the hotel. Thank you for a great experience!

Ridiculous fee of $65 to park at the hotel, American breakfast with two eggs and bacon is $25 and was cold. Was woken at 7.30 am to an alarmingly loud exercise class that was louder than a rave and went on for an hour. I had no choice but to get up way earlier than I wanted. I have never seen a hotel have such a ridiculously loud gym/class where people are paying to try to SLEEP! Prices for everything on the property are so out of whack and I live in a nearby beach town so I am used to California proces. The only benefit was it's close proximity to the concert we came to see at The Music Box, a short 3 minute walk. Would never stay here again. Staff were all nice but super slow at everything including preparing drinks, etc. just an overall bad experience.

After a long day of conference, I arrived back at the hotel to find the lights in my room not working. While the maintenance engineer was polite and genuinely tried to fix the issue (he was the only positive part of this experience), the problem couldn’t be resolved. This went on for 30 minutes. I was then told I would need to change rooms - but due to a “system issue,” I would not receive a room key until the next morning, and that it would be slipped under my door. They offered to give me the key in an hour after I pushed back, but they never gave me the key through the night and I was locked in my room without any way to go out and come back. This is a major safety and security concern and completely unacceptable. The situation was handled poorly by front desk staff, specifically Carla and Eva. I was largely ignored while they spoke in another language in front of me, received dismissive and rude behavior, and was spoken to in a way that felt discriminatory. I was even questioned whether I understood what they were saying, based on my accent, which was inappropriate, racist, and offensive. No meaningful apology was offered for any of this. Aside from the maintenance engineer, the service was unprofessional and insensitive. Management seriously needs to address staff conduct, their subtle racism, guest safety, and how situations like this are handled
