I have been a member of the Best Western Rewards program for over 20 years, and I have stayed at many Best Western hotels around the world. I know what to expect in terms of a quality stay at a Best Western hotel. Unfortunately, this hotel is subpar by Best Western standards.
I will list several items to prove my point.
1. The hotel feels shabby with outdated decor and room conditions
2. The room is very uncomfortable. While the room is large, there is no space (chairs, counters) to spread anything around
3. The counter space in the sink area is tiny, and the bathroom area is very tight
4. Ecologically the room doesn’t meet modern standards - the toilet tank wastes a lot of water per flush; the shower spigot is dripping water, and 2 attempts to get it fixed didn’t produce results
5. Breakfast was just as bad as in most of the US Best Western hotels. We had to go out to get better quality food.
I am sorry I didn’t book another hotel instead of this one.
When arriving to the Hotel, it was difficult to assume which of the x3 entrances were to the main Lobby. It was either the entrance into the Garage, or the one at the “Front” by the Pool, or the farther entrance by Scott St. As there were cars parked on the sidewalk next to the Lobby entrance. With the pool area in front of the hotel it was confusing. As the Only signage for the Lobby was in the Garage made of paper.
After my Spouse and I were completing check in, the customer service representative Lady was a delight and was very informative.
As we headed up to the room, we still see signage on the walls of the building that state a Vending Machine is available on our level. However, the Vending Machine is actually on the Lobby level Only.
And when operating the elevator, the level we were on the buttons were 1/2 lit.
As we entered the room, it was a nice King bed with a good view of the Marina. The sunset was beautiful after the fire nearby.
The thermostat was difficult to adjust. The technology could not accommodate to just ventilation.
There was an unusual latch mechanism for the patio area. For an upper level room it seemed intimidating. Have people scaled the building that far up before?
As you close the curtains, there was either moth or something else that caused holes in the blackout panels.
We had recently stayed at a different Best Western. The facility had 32 oz bottles of shampoo, conditioner, & body wash all attached to the wall of the shower. Here they have 22 ml bottles on the sink. A BIG difference especially as if you have longer hair, you may need more bottles
In addition, the ceiling near the bathroom sink looks like it had work done. But it didn’t make the room aesthetically pleasing.
Also, I don’t smoke anything. But the smoke alarm looks like it had been tampered with prior to our check in.
We had interest in going out to the Jacuzzi. Since we didn’t enter the lobby through the front door earlier, we didn’t know the pool entrance was also at the front. And got a little lost looking for the pool.
When we Found the entrance to the pool area to try out the Jacuzzi, it seemed like the mechanism was working ok. The jets would shoot short bursts. The Temperature gage was indicating 90 degrees. However the temperature outside was 72 degrees. The feeling of the water while the jets were on felt less than 70 degrees.
The management was informed. But just slightly disappointing after being at another Best Western where the Jacuzzi was a highlight.
On the morning of the last day at 8 am, we had a knock on the door from Housekeeping. We remember placing the “Privacy Please” sign from the night prior. When we opened the door the place card was still on the door! Considerably annoying!
Also on the last day, inside the shower and sink area was Black Ants! This being near the Top floor! And they were attracted to the coffee machine like usual.
Some adjustments I would recommend would be having Painted signage in the Garage as well as small Painted arrows to show Main Lobby entrance. In addition, maybe have painted arrows to help the flow of vehicles entering and exiting.
Also, maybe adding mirrors in a couple of areas to help see oncoming traffic as there are blind spots at the top parking lot that it’s hard to see if a car is coming in.
Last but Not least, this place is partially ADA compliant. There’s too many steps and stairs that I would NOT recommend if you have mobility disabilities.

The service was great and the breakfast was nice to have. However, the rooms are very outdated. The bed might be the hardest bed I have ever used at a hotel. I'm used to a firm mattress but this was beyond firm with little padding. It was a fair price but I wouldn't stay there again.

A lovely little place on North Harbor drive
The place is lovely and offers continental breakfast and free parking on site
It has a pool and a balcony for every room which is impressive
The carpets on the hallway look well used but is clean and the place is kept clean
The staff are very helpful and friendly and the place smells really lovely
The rooms are a fair size and has a tv, a fridge and microwave there is a cupboard with ironing board coffee machine and a hair dryer
The showers are ok and that is only one thing if I have to say or suggest to improve but it does the job and that is all that matters
We had an issue with the room and I rang the receptionist and it was dealt with immediately and I was well impressed
I would highly recommend this place if you are on a budget and want to tour San Diego and nearby a great place to hole up and enjoy
