  Not the best environment around the hotel. However the hotel staff was extremely kind. The hotel has everything including hit breakfast. And it's only a mile and a half from Old Town Sacramento. I really enjoyed this stay

  The good: The front desk staff let us check in about 90 minutes early on our first night, which was very helpful! There weren't any bed bug issues. The proximity to the river, multiple freeways, downtown, Old Sac, the SMUD science center, and midtown is handy. The rest: The air unit in our room had both knobs missing; one of the nightstand lamps similarly had its knobs missing and couldn't be turned on. There was signs of mold on the ceiling above the tub, the tub leaked audibly, the sink sprayed the counter more than the bowl, and the bathroom door stuck. Outlets, switches, and floors were fairly dirty; the room itself had several small instances of poor repair (for example, a hole in wall under desk). The bed had sufficient squishy pillows, but no comforter, only 2 top sheets and a thin fleece blanket (hospital style) with a melted hole in it and someone else's hairball. The trail access gate has been welded shut, so the river trail is not actually accessible from the hotel as advertised. Breakfast required tickets, which is unusual for a Best Western. Finally, the room was decorated with a very unsettling mural on one wall that was supposed to be a close-up on a wagon wheel but instead looked like a peeled eyeball and tendons. (Your mileage may vary - my partner was really weirded out, I thought it wasn't too bad.) Our first night was chilly in the room, and I tried to go to the front office the next evening to get a second blanket. The front desk person wasn't there, with a sign saying he would be right back. I waited half an hour but no one showed up. This was not a good place - I would honestly consider it a motel rather than a hotel. At the very least, it did not come anywhere close to the basic standards of cleanliness and comfort I expect when staying in a Best Western. Overall, it was a strange and uncomfortable two nights.
