Stayed here for a work trip, and the entire experience was just fine.
Pros: The location is fantastic, within walking distance to Yonge and Dundas; the front desk was very helpful and friendly when I needed to switch rooms; and the beds are very comfortable.
Cons: The rooms are quite dated, and nothing special; the elevator is by far THE slowest elevator I've ever encountered (several times I just gave up waiting and took the stairs); walls are very thin; and this hotel seems to attract a lot of loud people. I unfortunately was put on a floor with a large group that had multiple rooms booked (I can't understand why the hotel would put me there), and asked to change rooms due to the constant in-out and slamming doors every 15 minutes until 2am.
If you're looking for a party, this may be the hotel for you. If you're here for work or value sleep, I'd book elsewhere.

This hotel is one of the worst while listed as one of the best! We were in our room when the power went out never seen that at a hotel not once did they come knock on the doors call etc to notify anyone after the scary encounter they offered breakfast instead of a refund and still had to pay the one day parking fee of $43 worst experience ever I will never ever come back to this old looking hotel and will not recommend this hotel to anyone so many people was without power that night complaining and this was on Mother’s Day they apologized and didn’t offer further assurance etc so they completely didn’t care if though everyone was scared and sleep interiors etc will be calling corporate as well as the better business bureau

I’ve had many hospitality experiences, but my recent stay at the Chelsea Hotel was easily one of the most disappointing in years. For a hotel charging $250+ per night, the level of infrastructure failure is unacceptable.
• Elevator Crisis: Throughout my entire stay, two out of the three elevators in our bank were shut down. Being on the 6th floor meant I either had to hike the stairs or face wait times of up to 10 minutes every time I wanted to leave or return to my room.
• HVAC Failure: On the second day, my room became uncomfortably cold. After calling customer care, I was informed the entire HVAC system was down and they would have to send up a portable heater.
• Lack of Transparency: The most frustrating part was learning from the support staff (who were kind and clearly overworked) that these issues have been ongoing for weeks. Management is clearly aware of these systemic failures but continues to book rooms at full price without warning guests of the diminished experience.
If I had been given any heads-up about the "construction" or maintenance status of the building, I would have booked elsewhere. Save your money and stay somewhere that can guarantee basic climate control and functioning transit within the building.

Basic expectations not met. Its a large hotel and some basic things were issues. First the temp room control didnt function. We got back from being out and it was super hot. Turning the temp down did nothing. When called front desk they said was on heat and only thing can do is turn it off and they could send up a fan. It was uncomfortable and for a nice large hotel expect to be able to control the temp. The cleaning staff also came at 830 the first morning to clean the room. It was so early and when said no we were still here somewhat rudely said put the do not disturb sign on then. We had it on for the rest of the trip to prevent issues that early. On our last night we got a late checkout. The font desk was very helpful and accommodating in that but housekeeping around the same time 8 or 9 tried to come into the room and asked if we were checking out today. As not a morning person this was annoying. They also didn't offer room service and I was looking forward to that. The pool is small but nice. It was quite full. Great location and the people were friendly. Ease self check in and out.

The location alone almost makes this place worth it. You're right on Yonge Street, everything is walkable or a quick Uber away, and for tourists especially, it's hard to beat.
The room was clean, the staff were friendly and professional whenever we talked to them, and room service did the job. No real complaints there.
But the little things really got to us. We got to our room on the first night and there was no soap in the bathroom. No soap. Had to call down to get some sent up. No toothpaste, no slippers either. The kind of stuff you just expect to be there at a 4-star hotel without having to ask. And the thermostat looked like it hadn't been updated since the 90s, completely unresponsive the first day, then somehow working fine the next. No explanation, it just decided to work.
The wifi was the same story. When it actually connected, it worked fine. But it kept dropping and made us log back in constantly, which gets old fast when you're just trying to unwind after a day out.
Individually, any one of these things is a minor annoyance. But when they keep stacking up, it starts to feel like the hotel just isn't paying attention. For the price and the star rating, that's frustrating. Fix the basics and this place could genuinely be one of the better options in the city.
