I dub this review, A Pleasantly Surprised Hidden Gem.
I stayed in Monterey two years ago on the navy war college side. And that was nice, especially for the location and the price. However, the army hotel is simply nicer. I want to compliment whomever designed the refurbishment of this building. On the outside it looks outdated, since it used to be old Geo Bat officer quarters but when you see your two room suite, you are indeed surprised. To be frank I think it's the best army hotel I've ever stayed in. You can't beat the price in Monterey, or the view. The staff is indeed friendly. I totally recommend staying here if you have base access and want to enjoy Monterey.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the IHG Army Hotel at the Presidio of Monterey, and we can honestly say it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made my family feel genuinely welcomed—professional, attentive, and always ready with a smile.
The location is absolutely unbeatable. Nestled within the Presidio, the hotel offers a peaceful, scenic atmosphere with stunning coastal views and easy access to Monterey’s most beautiful spots. It’s the perfect balance of tranquility and convenience.
The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained. Everything felt fresh and well cared for, which made it easy to relax after a long day. The attention to detail—from the cleanliness to the amenities—really stood out.
What truly made the experience exceptional, though, was the level of service. I’d especially like to recognize the Front Office Manager, Mr. Pons, whose professionalism, leadership, and genuine care for guests clearly set the tone for the entire visit. He was especially helpful in arranging an ocean-view room for us, which made our stay even more memorable. He also made several excellent recommedations for local restaurants that we absolutely enjoyed - Fisherman's Gotto & Rosaline's, were/are amazing!
If you’re looking for a place that combines comfort, location, and outstanding hospitality, this hotel is a top choice. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Monterey. Thank you, we'll definitely be back!

My room did not have a/c so thank goodness I stayed on a March day where the highs were just under 80. Explains the box fan in the closet which I used for air and white noise. The ceiling fan is remote controlled but apparently all of the rooms have the same fan and remote transmitter frequency. My fan would randomly turn on and off and adjust speed as well as the built in light would turn on and off. The front desk rep advised upfront that the wifi was not working which was an inconvenience. Both myself and a family member almost twisted our ankles walking on all the large round rocks that surround the building. You cannot easily roll your luggage around the premises since there are stepping stones leading up to the first floor doors. The only redeeming quality was the view of the bay from the upper parking lot. My room did not have a view. The bathroom sink looked like it has been there since 1940 and had no room to place anything on.

Breakfast was better than my previous stay. Also, they were very accommodating since my husband had dental work nearby. I was able to stay longer until he was finished. And the cookies at check-in are a nice touch.

This hotel has more broken heaters than space heaters available. Meaning- my very young children did not have heat at night until my husband made a big enough fuss and we got a space heater by night 2 (luckily I did not have an infant with me, or that would have been a more intense health and safety concern). Coming from Hawaii my children were shivering and very uncomfortable, to the point of crying, because they were so cold at night. This MUST be fixed for the families that use this facility. I can overlook a dingy and dirty hotel, but heat is a basic standard of living that cannot be excused. I attempted an ICE comment and, surprisingly, the IHG is not an option to leave a comment on.
