  Cute hotel in a lovely area near the beach with great restaurants close by. The beds are very comfortable too!

  New GM Derek made us feel very welcome. Night Auditor Emily did the same. The whole staff is warm and friendly. The Empress Hotel continues to impress. We plan to return! Anyone looking for a an affordable getaway to La Jolla, look no farther than this hotel.

  Beautiful and wonderful staff! I stayed here for a wedding close to the hotel. It was partially booked from a third party (blame the husband lol) but I added a night from the official site. I was so worried about changing rooms the DAY of the wedding, but Tenasha (I hope I spelled that right, apologies of not) and Sydney were very helpful and accommodated my guest and me well. I didn't get to chat with the night employee as much but he always greeted me (even at 1am) with a smile and nod. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again! The staff are amazing and so welcoming. The place is secure and safe, the rooms are nice and kept well. It really was one of the BEST experiences of my life. Thank you so much to the staff for all you did. Again, I'm sorry I can't remember the night staff's names.... I was just at an open bar reception and wedding the two days I was there. But everything is amazing! Oh and the breakfast? DELICIOUS! These folks really do their best to make you FEEL the best. Will 120% go again and am planning a trip this fall for the same place. OH! Also, it's on a main street in the downtown area. I walked for hours just enjoying myself. Such a great location, hotel accommodations, and overall atmosphere was.... AMAZING. I danced all night, two nights in a row, and this place helped me feel REFRESHED everyday I woke up! Cannot recommend enough.

  Spacious hotel rooms but some of them are suboptimal to say the least. My original room that was assigned me to was sandwiched between the bathroom, the elevator and a janitorial suite. There was a line to get into my own room never mind the noise from enthusiasic bar patrons. The price to upgrade was nominal but it did leave a bad first impression. I booked directly with the hotel and not through a third party so I didn't have much recourse. Location is pretty central and convenient. Staff are friendly and helpful enough. The hotel itself is quite dated but serviceable. There are strange quirks like the pillows we got were oddly small (2x twin sized pillows on a king sized bed).

  We had an excellent stay. The manager Tanesha Sutton was very helpful ! She not only checked that our room was perfect but also got us ice to fill our cooler ! The room was very nice, clean and beds comfortable ! Breakfast included eggs and waffles!!! Staff was friendly and very helpful !!! We had a great stay ! Very close to the beach and all the town has to offer. They even have free beach chairs and umbrellas !
