I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, but this was one of the more concerning experiences. We requested an upstairs room in advance, yet when we arrived at 5:30pm, we were told there was only one room left and no possibility of changing it. It was on the ground floor, next to the soda machine and pool.
Within minutes, we found used towels in the bathroom—already a bad sign. Worse, when I stepped on the carpet outside the bathroom, my socks were soaked with urine. Not water. Urine. And not ours. With no option to switch rooms, we had to stay the night and were woken early by loud footsteps overhead.
The explanation offered by Andrea at the front desk the next morning—that “maybe someone homeless came in before you arrived”—was said almost casually, which was incredibly unsettling. We were moved to a new room for the second night, but unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there. The second room was directly above the kitchen, and very loud noises began around 4:30am. There were also plumbing issues: water was seeping into the vanity-area carpet, soaking it and creating a strong musty odor. At that point, I could only hope it was just water.
Given the dismissive interactions with the front-desk staff—who had already made it clear she was no longer approachable—I simply tried to wrap up the stay as smoothly as possible.
Both rooms had significant issues, and the lack of room checks, sanitation, and general maintenance needs serious attention. Guests should never have to deal with urine-soaked carpets, musty wet floors, or situations that leave them feeling dismissed when they ask for help.
