Didn’t have time to wait for a room change and we were checking out that morning anyway so I got to leave feeling gross and pissed off. The “ocean view” they charge extra for includes dumpsters and a tiny silver of ocean in the back. Check-in was weird. I was greeted with a “hey” by a guy standing and watching a tv. It wasn’t until I was at the front desk that had no staff and he asked across the lobby if I was checking in that I realized he worked there. Felt like I was massively inconveniencing him by arriving. This place is sloppy and a huge disappointment. They said they would give me a discount for the lack of a working shower and based on some of the other bad reviews it looks like they won’t. I will dispute the charge fully if I don’t see it, this place should be bought by someone who gives a damn. Update: They did not honor what they said and charged me full price for a room with no hot water. This place is a dump. AVOID.

But the real treasure of the hotel is our beloved Barbara. She has known my entire family; including our dog Toughie. She makes you feel like family. He’s like the world’s best multitasker and pays attention to his customers. See here is everything is very personable, and just an all-around great person. This will keep us coming back time after time. Really enjoyed the evening and Santana was the biggest reason for it.

Barbara helped me create the perfect picnic lunches to take the kids in the car. I ate breakfast every morning in the restaurant downstairs, and Tee always remembered me, and her service was above and beyond. Ian was also attentive and kind, and made sure I had a coffee to go. I highly recommend their breakfast. Excellent meals every morning, and they were happy to make modifications for my dietary needs. They also had a well-equipped, clean fitness center. Finally, the location was excellent. Within walking distance to charming downtown Del Mar and the beach, down the road from the Coastal Christmas Holiday light show, and less than 30 minutes to attractions like San Diego Zoo. Close by everything! Loved my stay, loved my room, loved the staff! A lovely boutique hotel. I will be back soon:)
