My only issue was having to pay for parking and then receiving a separate bill after the stay. After already paying for the hotel, I would expect parking to be included, so this felt like an unnecessary extra charge and a way to generate additional revenue. That was disappointing. Overall, however, it is a nice place to stay.

Even though I stay at many Holiday Inn Express, this is definitely one of the least desirable. It's an older hotel and the room I stayed in had vinyl cushioned sofa. Bathroom was just older. But with that said, if you want a walkable access to the beach and be in Carlsbad, it is a good option for the price. It is very inexpensive. So don't expect much.

The lobby is nice and that is about it. The rest of hotel needs a deep clean and update. We paid extra for a suite since we had the whole family in town for a soccer camp and it was a waste of money. Charging for parking is ridiculous.
