A Confrontational, Uncomfortable Stay That Ended My Loyalty to Hilton
From the moment we arrived, the experience was off. The lobby had a strong odor—urine, bodily smells, and what felt like an overall lack of cleanliness. A woman who appeared to be homeless was yelling incoherently in the lobby while we were checking in. Although I did receive an upgrade, the service felt cold and transactional—right down to being handed a cold cookie with no warmth or hospitality behind it.
The next day completely derailed the stay. My husband and I were relaxing and watching a movie when the hotel called our room phone—twice—without explanation. Shortly after, staff came knocking on our door aggressively and began arguing with me, making accusations that made absolutely no sense. I calmly asked them to review security footage if there were any concerns, yet they continued to argue with me for several minutes. It was intrusive, unnecessary, and completely disrupted our stay. Being confronted and accused in that manner is unacceptable and made me feel harassed as a guest.
Once the experience was already ruined, the rest became impossible to ignore. The coffee maker was broken, the beds were uncomfortably hard, and the property is clearly in need of major upgrades. The marina location itself feels outdated, and the surrounding area—particularly across the street—had many people living in their cars, which added to the overall discomfort.
This stay was disappointing on every level, especially from a brand I’ve long trusted. Between the lack of service, confrontational staff behavior, and the condition of the property, I won’t be returning to this DoubleTree or this Hilton brand. This experience has honestly pushed me toward making Marriott Bonvoy my go-to moving forward.

Stinky, old and dated. Our curtains had holes, tub had stains, furniture is extremely dated, halls need paint and fresh carpet. We had a critter in the room, old fur hair on the pillows. They are in dire need of a remodel and major updates. Disgusting! We walked in and immediately the stench in the room was overwhelming. We stayed on NYE and the hotel was fully booked so there weren’t any Options for a room change so we packed up and drove back home sleepy in the rain, but at least we ended with a clean, fresh room to rest in. 😏🥴

What a shame!!!!!
It shouldn’t be named Hilton at all.
I made a reservation and tried to reach front desk at normal business hours. The call goes to reservations department and there was unprofessional lady who puts me on hold for 2 hours & told me no front desk available. On top of that she is not even willing to tell the reason why front desk were not available. After getting no help from the hotel, they cancelled my reservation by their own & I got charged $419 cancelation charge. It’s a total scam. Do not stay here. Avoid them at any cost!!! They are legal thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The DoubleTree by Hilton is quite outdated, and the rooms are in need of upgrading. The air conditioning did not work properly, and my room felt consistently damp, which was uncomfortable during my stay. I was also disappointed that I did not receive the signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies. To access the pool, you have to walk outside for a few seconds, which is not ideal, especially in bad weather. The restaurant experience was decent, the food was amazing, but service could be slow at times. Overall, I was surprised that this hotel is part of the Hilton brand. That being said, it is worth the money for the price, the location is excellent, and the hotel offers some great amenities and views!

The stay at Double Tree Hotel - Berkeley Marina was below expectations for a number of reasons. The room: The hotel room felt like it is due for some upgrades, there is no mini fridge to keep your food or drinks cold, and there are no blackout curtains, so as soon as the sun as up, you can no longer sleep in. The bathroom smelled like wet mop, the bathroom ceiling had black mildew spots all over the ceiling as if it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. This hotel had the loudest doors ever. I thought it was just our room but anytime guests around us opened/closed their doors, it sounded as if they were being slammed. From my experience with the door for our room, it seems like the door gets stuck and it hard to open and close it.
Also, around 10:20pm there were guests screaming and fighting in the hallway and I tried to call the front desk 3 times to call for security and no one would answer. It was alarming and concerning that no one would answer the phone while a chaotic situation was happening in front of our door. I noticed there aren't any cameras in the hallway either.
The parking: The parking situation is awful. Not only is there a $40 charge per night for parking, but it's difficult to enter/exit due to an outdated system. The "tap your room key to exit/enter" feature is extremely flawed, myself and other guests had trouble getting our keys to work and it caused a multiple car back up as people were trying to enter or exit the parking lot. I went to the front desk for help with this multiple times and though they said the room key was reset and fixed, I continued to have this issue during the duration of my stay.
Overall, I expected a better experience considering this is a Double Tree, but I would never recommend staying here.
