Very disappointing experience, especially because of the Yellow Cab Vancouver taxi service directly recommended by the hotel staff.
During my stay at the Holiday Inn & Suites Vancouver Downtown, I asked the reception how I could get a taxi. The receptionists told me to go outside and take one of the taxis waiting in front of the hotel parking area.
I followed their instructions and used a Yellow Cab Vancouver taxi. Unfortunately, that ride turned into an extremely unpleasant experience: I later discovered that I had been charged twice for the same journey, once in Canadian dollars and a second time in euros, with the euro charge also being significantly higher than the actual fare.
I understand that Yellow Cab Vancouver is a separate business from the hotel, but from a guest’s perspective it is very concerning that taxis from this company regularly wait directly outside the hotel and, at the same time, are actively recommended by the reception staff.
When a hotel directs its guests toward a particular taxi service, it is natural to expect that the service is at least reliable and trustworthy. Unfortunately, my experience with Yellow Cab Vancouver was anything but positive.
I believe the hotel should seriously reconsider which taxi services it recommends to its guests and whether it is appropriate to continue directing tourists toward Yellow Cab Vancouver.
A hotel should help its guests feel safe and properly assisted, especially when they are visitors in a foreign city. Unfortunately, in this case, following the hotel staff’s recommendation resulted in a very negative experience and also caused me financial loss.
For this reason, my overall impression of the hotel has been significantly affected.

Need major renovations. Good location but badly kept. Basic amenities like pool does not exist. There are much better options available at this price.

We stayed here for our last night after a roadtrip in Canada. The hotel is not bad and the location is ok but there is a nightclub nearby and loud music until 2 am. No sleep and we had our flight in the morning. Also apparently there roomkey cards work also on other doors. A couple entered our room at 11 pm. 😱

Thought there was a pool but there is not. Feels like false advertising. They should manage their Google Photos better. I reported the photos on Google. Hopefully that helps them get removed for other customers. Otherwise the hotel has been great. Breakfast was great and the staff are all very friendly.
Your amenities page and FAQ both correctly say there’s no pool. But the description text that shows up in Google search results still mentions an indoor pool, and third-party sites like Booking.com, Trivago, Kayak and bookstaygo are all picking that up and advertising one.
Took me a while to figure out which was right. Might be worth updating so guests aren’t showing up expecting a swim.
Thanks,
Brett
They are looking into removing the photos of Google. I believe they are doing the best they can. Everything else was great the staff are very friendly and professional.

Overall, we had a really good stay here while in town for the Whitecaps game, though there was a bit of a bumpy start.
The biggest issue we ran into was with the amenities. When we were looking at the hotel on Google Maps, it showed photos of an indoor pool. Unfortunately, we found out upon arriving that the pool apparently closed last year. My kids were pretty disappointed and not happy about it at all. The hotel really needs to get those old photos taken down so families aren’t misled.
Despite that initial letdown, the staff was exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We also really enjoyed the breakfast, it was great and a huge plus for our mornings.
The rooms themselves were good, and the beds were very good, making for a comfortable night’s sleep. I will note that we could hear a little bit of bass bleeding through from the music at the bar next door one night, but the rooms are actually quite soundproof otherwise. We had a huge thunderstorm roll through downtown during our stay, and we didn't hear much of it at all.
All in all, the friendly service, comfortable beds, and great breakfast made up for the lack of a pool. It's a solid choice for a downtown stay. Close to Grandville.
