Stayed for one night enroute back home. Check in was easy. The room allocated to us was basically above the lobby with absolutely no view except for the side of the entrance way. I did ask about a room change but was initially told I couldn't. But then the guy who checked us in did come and let us know that he could give me a different room. The room was on the 3rd floor, and was a little better, although still on the same side looking at the road. After having stayed at the Airdrie location on the way into BC, the Golden hotel is like the poor cousin. The hotel is definitely in need of some TLC. Lots of stains on the rugs. Didn't look clean. The toilet in the room was very low! And there was an extremely loud hum going all night. The breakfast was decent and lots of choices. For hot water it was a kettle which was badly in need of descaling. Looked disgusting! The cook did check on the food to keep it stocked, but didn't look like he enjoyed his job. The hotel was OK for the one night, but will not be my first choice next time on my way through Golden. For $400 for one night I would have expected something better.

Spent the extra money for what i thought would be a better hotel but this place most certaintly dissapointed. Ive stayed at many hotels and id say this is more of a 2 star and we would have been more happy at any other cheaper hotel. Terrible breakfast rooms are small and outdated service not the best all around very 2 star ish experience. Would not and will not stay here again

Highway-oriented property on the edge of town and just a simple 5 minute drive to the main street. Well-maintained and clean. We were given an accessible room with an accessible shower. We had no need for that BUT it gave us some extra room which was helpful on this trip. Buffet-style breakfast to give guests flexibility in the morning from 7 to 9:30. Food was OK and staff were quick to replenish items. 24 hour tea and coffee is available, and a pool and hot tub are nice to have. Overall a good experience.

⭐ **1 Star – Extremely disappointing experience** We stayed at this hotel in Golden and had an absolutely horrible experience. We drove approximately 6½ hours from Edmonton with our kids, only to arrive and discover that the hotel had **no power due to an outage in Golden**. The biggest issue is that **neither the hotel nor Expedia notified us about the outage before we arrived**. Had we known, we would have made different arrangements and stayed somewhere else. Once we arrived, there was no power, no hot water, and essentially none of the normal hotel services available. Traveling with kids made the situation even more difficult. We contacted the hotel to see if they could help or offer any kind of accommodation, refund, or alternative, but were basically told there was nothing they could do. We were still charged **the full amount of our stay**over $400. I gave the hotel an opportunity to make things right by offering either a full or partial refund, but they refused. Expedia also attempted to contact the hotel on our behalf, and the hotel still refused. I understand that power outages can happen and are not necessarily the hotel's fault. However, **the lack of communication and the refusal to offer any reasonable solution afterward is what made this experience so disappointing**. After driving 6½ hours with children, arriving at a hotel with no power or hot water, and then receiving no meaningful assistance or compensation, this was easily one of the worst hotel experiences we've had. **I would not recommend staying here, especially if you're traveling with children.** Manager said basically said nothing they can do because the power came later that night.

This is, without a doubt, the worst Holiday Inn Express I have ever stayed in. If this location is any indication, the brand standards in Canada have fallen to an unacceptable low—following a similarly poor experience at a Toronto airport location, I am genuinely questioning the management of this hotel chain in the country. We booked a three-night stay to explore the Canadian Rockies, but our experience was ruined by deeply unsanitary conditions and a total absence of professional hospitality standards: Extreme Lack of Cleanliness: The hotel is heavily outdated and deeply neglected. The carpets throughout the property are visibly greasy, stained, and burned in areas. The rooms carry a persistent, unpleasant odor. Biohazard & Housekeeping Failures: On our very first night, we discovered blood stains on our bedsheets. When we called the front desk to complain, a staff member named Saurabh came up to handle it. He initially claimed to be the manager, but moments later, he was changing the bedding and cleaning the bathroom himself. Severe Understaffing: It became clear that the hotel is operating with virtually no staff. The same individual is apparently acting as the front desk agent, the room cleaner, and the "manager." When we asked to escalate our severe cleanliness complaints, we were told there was no one else and that he was the final authority. Substandard Breakfast: The complimentary breakfast fell well below standard Holiday Inn Express expectations, suffering from frequent shortages of basic food and beverage supplies. Unreliable Service: Daily housekeeping was neglected for consecutive nights, forcing us to chase down staff just to get basic attention. Running a hotel with a single overworked employee handling the front desk, management duties, and housekeeping simultaneously is a safety and health hazard. Paying guests should never be subjected to blood-stained sheets, greasy carpets, and dismissive "management." We will never stay at a Holiday Inn Express again, particularly in Canada. Avoid this property if you value cleanliness, basic hygiene, and professional service.
