So, in the last year I have stayed 33 nights at Best Westerns as an elite member this last year. Comparing the others to this particular location - I had a couple interesting observations. On all the gravel areas outside & in the parking area - everything is coated in poop. Rooms are clean and painted well. Furniture is ok. Floors are good. Aircon/heater works well. Sink dripped constantly. In my only attempt at a shower - the shower head blew off and shot water everywhere. I could not get anyone at the desk to answer the phone - so we cleaned it up ourselves. Also - the WiFi does not work. I did manage to report that a couple hours ago - but it didn't get resolved during my times checking for it to be working. TV's are old style - no streaming capabilities. So you get the primary 4 networks, plus CW and PBS and some oldies channels. Plus a couple Spanish channels. For local flavor the super long cargo trains run by about once per hour... perhaps 100yds across the road. That does help provide background noise to put you to sleep (if that's your thing - since my white noise alexa device wasn't able to connect to the internet). I think that covers it for today...
Update: Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was very good and clean. Internet was working the next day.

Typisches Motel an der Interstate. Gut für eine Nacht. In 5 min Autofahrentfernung einige Restaurants. Sonst alles da, was man so braucht.

Exceptional staff attitude was the highlight of my stay. While the hotel offers fair value relative to the tariff paid, there is a noticeable disparity between the photos provided and the physical reality.
For international guests, the surrounding neighborhood presents a security or comfort issue, but that is probably my personal prejudice. I think if the hotel can do something with access that would help improve guests’ confidence in safety tremendously (being Asians, I felt uncomfortable when I unloaded my luggage with 2-3 people walking by and staring).

We have been Best Western members for years now and almost always stay in BW hotels when we're traveling with our dog. Our stays have always been excellent. This one was not just an exception – it was absolutely awful
We checked in Saturday, Nov 29 at around 4:30 p.m. We left around 6:00 p.m. sacrificing our $92 payment to get out of there. Here's a brief description of what happened.
As we headed to our room after checking in, we passed the woman who had checked in before us. She was headed back to the lobby and looked totally freaked out. She told us the clerk had given them a room that was already occupied and she and her husband had walked in on the occupants.
When we entered our room we were surprised by the very strong pet odor inside. We have stayed in dozens of hotel pet rooms over the years and never experienced this. On just this trip, we stayed in two other BW hotels with our dog. They were clean and odor-free. Not to overstate it, but this room stank. My wife went to the office to see if there was another room available. She was told all the pet rooms were now occupied and they all smelled like that because, well, they were pet rooms. We figured we'd eventually get used to the odor and brought our suitcases in.
We noticed the floor seemed quite dirty. We dampened a washcloth and swiped it on the floor and it came up black with dirt. This was not a little dust. This floor was filthy. We dampened a hand towel and cleaned it as best we could, but then we needed a fresh hand towel. We called the office and were told they couldn't deliver one, but we could bring it up and they would exchange it. When my wife took the dirty towel up, the clerk told her we likely would have to pay for it. The towel was not damaged – but it was dirty. With the dirt that was in the room when we arrived. The clerk also informed us that they did not refund payments.
A few minutes later we got a notification from our bank that it had declined a $50 charge from Best Western. Shortly thereafter there were two attempts at $25 charges. This was apparently for a dirty, undamaged hand towel. To us, this felt like an attempted theft.
At this point we didn't feel safe in our room. After a brief discussion, we decided to forfeit our payment and go to another hotel. There was a hotel a few blocks away (we'll call it the Q Inn) that had pet rooms available and we went there. This was about the same price as the Desert Villa Inn. The room was clean and the only odor was the pleasing, light scent of fresh linens. We were curious – do all hotel rooms have dirty floors? We dampened a washcloth and swiped it on the floor. It came up clean.
We'll never stay at the Desert Villa Inn again. Traveler beware.
