This hotel is a good option if you are looking for a no-frills place to stay in a reasonable area. The breakfast is just OK, the rooms (at least ours) were quite outdated and definitely starting to show their age and need for renovation. The location is great if you have a car, not so much if you don't. The pool opened late and closed early on several occasions during our 4 night stay. The staff were reasonably friendly but attempted to deny our use of the airport shuttle since it was not during check in or check out (extenuating circumstances to pick up a new rental car). They are also very particular about access to the breakfast area.
Ultimately, I would probably not stay there again but the hotel is perfectly serviceable. Biggest issue was just the overall dated look of the rooms and generally questionable staff hospitality.

Rarely write a review, yet Vishva, of the night audit team at the Holiday Inn Riverport Richmond, deserves a special mention. Due to a mix up with reservations and a deluge of delayed flights, I was without a room on a very rainy, very early Saturday morning. In a complete hail-mary attempt to have accommodations for a few hours, I arrived at the Holiday Inn Riverport Richmond to be greeted by a smiling Vishva. Upon hearing my tale of woe, he worked his magic, moved some rooms and boom- I had a room. It was likely routine for Vishva, yet he made the effort to help a weary traveler, and made a great impression upon me. In a time of traditional customer service on the decline, and brand pride a thing of the past, it was refreshing to see someone who cared and went the extra mile to ensure a customer was looked after. Another note; the breakfast buffet was fabulous. Hot, plentiful and tasty. The breakfast team members really take pride in their work. Well done to Vishva, and the breakfast team. I look forward to seeing and staying with the Riverport Richmond again in the near future.

Dear Holiday Inn Express Riverport Richmond Team,
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Riverport Richmond with a crew of six, and I wanted to personally thank you for the outstanding attention and hospitality we received.
Your team consistently goes above and beyond, and this hotel has become one of my favorite places to stay. It truly feels like a home away from home, which is not easy to achieve when traveling with a crew. Because of that, it’s also a place I confidently recommend to friends and colleagues.
Special thanks to Dinusha and Wishwa for their professionalism, kindness, and genuine care throughout our stay. Their hospitality made a real difference.
Thank you again. I look forward to staying with you next time.
Best regards, Roberto Vargas

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights out of a planned 14-night reservation. Unfortunately, starting from the second night, I began experiencing what appeared to be bed bug bites that became worse each day. I have lived in my own home for years without ever having this issue, and the problem only started after staying here.
I raised the concern with management, but instead of properly investigating, I felt they dismissed my complaint and implied it was my fault. This was very disappointing.
Because of the risk of bringing bed bugs home, I had to discard luggage and clothing, resulting in a loss of about $700. I also had to leave early and find other accommodation.
I hope the hotel takes guest concerns like this seriously in the future and conducts proper inspections. Cleanliness and guest safety should be a priority.
I've stayed at this location every year for the last 2 years. I'm a platinum elite member + ambassador.
I've stayed at plenty of Holiday Inns all over the world. But this location is a little iffy. The first stay, they never thanked me for being a member. It's SOP for every front desk person to do. The same thing happened on my second year.
I've mentioned this to the manager, Farah, two years ago. Obviously, nothing was done because the following year, it was the same issue.
Fast FWD to 2026, I planned on booking here. The picture online was misleading - showing a stove in their kitchen suite but upon booking, I was told the room I booked doesn't have it. The person I was e-mailing with wasn't helpful at all.
It is clear to me there's a culture and operational issue at this location. If the manager isn't doing anything about it, then it stands to reason why the hotel is underperforming the way it is.
IHG lost a longtime member because of my experience here.
Customer service and a genuine desire to help customers are all buzzwords to IHG now.
I'm not expecting a Four Seasons' type of service from IHG properties, but, after staying at Holiday Inns over the last 4 decades of my life, there is a minimum standard. I mean, it's not like they're charging you $50 a night. It's 4x that. They should at least provide service that corresponds to the rates they charge.
Go elsewhere. You'll be happier.
