Staff were very friendly, room was quiet inside, a few sirens outside at night, not excessive. Was booked by company but I would definitely stay again business or pleasure. They have select dog friendly rooms which is a nice option. .

What made it unforgettable wasn’t the room, it was the food. David Peck and his team run three completely different dining experiences under one roof and every single one delivered. Top Notch Burgers is a scratch kitchen doing creative gourmet burgers, no fillers, no shortcuts, sauces made to order. The View Oceanside Grill takes it up a notch with harbour views and a fine dining sensibility, still rooted in fresh local ingredients. And then there’s Embers, a wine and charcuterie spot with a speakeasy feel that rounds out the whole experience beautifully. Three totally different vibes, same level of care across all of them. That consistency is no accident. David has a serious culinary background across Ontario, Australia and BC, he cuts his proteins in-house, sources locally, and genuinely gives a damn about what lands on your plate. You can feel it. The team carries that same energy. Warm, proud of what they’re doing, and it shows. If you’re visiting Nanaimo, stay at the Dorchester and let David and his team take care of you. I walked in not expecting much and left with a stay I won’t forget. If you are ever in the bar and see two fantastic chaps, Richard and Ray, spend time chatting with them. Offer them a beer, you wont regret it.
