Pool of course was closed with different excuses from front desk staff, as pool was closed so they do not have to deal with kids in it from our hockey tournament. TVs were down and not working, showers do not have soap or shampoo shelves so you have to hold onto it while on the shower. Staff said it’s how they were designed without, however you can see where they were previously installed, now removed. Staff were insisting they never had them.
Staff were following people around scoffing while cleaning up snow and water from people’s boots coming into the lobby yet had no substantial boot brushes, carpets or places to brush off footwear.
Only our first day here and DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone who wants to relax.

BED BUGS!! Over the holidays, my family of 5 travelled to Alberta from Lower Mainland for Christmas. On the way home we decided to stop in Clearwater overnight due to the weather and to take a break from travelling for the kids. We checked into the room around ~2130hr. The staff member at the front was very kind and efficient. We rented a family room on the third floor and around ~2300hr we were tucking our kids into bed when I found bed bugs in one of the queen beds where my toddler was laying. Immediately, we gathered our belongings and I went down to the front desk to share the news. The front desk staff apologized for the experience and moved us to a new room. Honestly, if I did not have my children with me I would of checked out. The front desk staff expressed to me that he could only give me $20 off my room but I should talk to management in the morning because I deserved to be compensated more due to the bed bugs and the inconvenience of moving our family to a different room in the hotel at that time of night. In the morning at checkout, when I asked to talk to management I was told the most they could do for me was $20 off my room. The lady I spoke with was very flippant about our experience and shrugged her shoulders when I expressed that the room had bed bugs. Honestly, aside from the lousy financial compensation, I did not feel as those my concern was validated or seen as serious. It felt like this was a common problem and there was not anything they could do to help with it. I feel as a consumer staying in your hotel, you could of done better.
Finding bed bugs in our room, crawling around my toddler was extremely taxing on our emotions and anxiety levels. Having to move a family of 5 with 3 young kids late at night and then coming home to spend hours cleaning and debugging our belongings was not a pleasant experience. And I do not feel this was taken seriously by the Best Western. What about the guests to come?

We are in town for a u13 hockey tournament. Conveniently the Pool is closed even though its full and looks fine. The kids cant do anything in halls or outside. Do they understand without a pool the kids have nothing to do in this town. They told us no mini sticks or any activities inside or outside in the parking lot. Tried to have a propane fire and was told no. Last year it was a great place to stay. Sounds like new owners or management dont like kids. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL IF YOU HAVE KIDS.
Update.. We were also told when we checked out we would get a discount because the pool was broken and the TV didn't work.. Sent an email and still no reply!

So disappointed. Our minor hockey team travelled over 5 hours to support this community, booking multiple rooms, spending money locally, and staying during what is likely a slower season. And we’re already dealing with major issues, before we’ve even checked in.
Found out the pool was “closed”. The front desk doesn’t have an actual answer as to why, but my guess because kids were coming to the hotel. Even worse, we learned this same thing happened two weeks ago during another tournament from another parent of a different team. At this point, it’s not an oversight, it’s discriminatory toward kids and completely unacceptable for a hotel that probably relies on youth sports for business.
The problems don’t stop there. The hotel asked our team manager for a $1,000 deposit even though every room is doing their own deposit/incidentals. Our manager had to contact our treasurer to send the funds to her to pay, only for the front desk to later say, “Oh, sorry, wrong team.” The level of disorganization is unreal.
We also weren’t notified about the pool closure ahead of time. A parent called to ask about her booking a couple days ago and only then was she told it was closed.
Because of this experience, we will not be returning to this hotel, this town, or this tournament ever again (no fault to the tournament organizers, we’ve been quite excited to come!) We won’t be recommending the hotel to any other teams, either.
The tournament originally had 8 teams registered and ended with only 6, and I can guarantee the lack of a usable pool is part of why teams are dropping out. This is a direct hit to the town, the hotel, and the hockey association that depend on these events.
Do better for the community and for the kids who bring business here year after year. Families deserve better. Edit to add. Our TV is lagging and there’s no common areas available for families. One team set up a pop up tent outside with a propane fire pit and we’re told no fires! It’s PROPANE! Editing further to add, our team inquired about a meeting room for board games and they told our manager they don’t have one (it’s right next to the gym). Furthermore, the treadmill in the gym doesn’t work, and the bike is out of order!
