The hotel itself is nice enough, the suite rooms are well equipped and comfortable. We initially thought the location was nice given the plaza, which has restaurants, shops, and a very popular coffee shop. The weekend market is also a plus. However, as travelers from out of state, we had no idea how bad theft is in Tucson. Because the hotel is right next to a popular bike trail on “the loop,” the parking lot is a particular target for this. When we asked the front desk staff if parking our small camper in the back was okay, they said it was good and gave no indication of any safety concerns. Our two mountain bikes were stolen from the parking lot even though they were locked with a heavy duty motorcycle steel chain. When we made a police report, the Sheriff not only said the locals really “know what they’re doing” when it comes to bike and other petty theft, but also that this parking lot gets hit *often.* He even detailed how the bike shop has been victim to theft. There are very few lights in the part of the lot near the hotel and intentionally no cameras (so the hotel doesn’t have to have liability, per the very unhelpful and unsympathetic front desk/operations manager). Maybe we should have brought our bikes inside to be extra cautious, but we had no reason to believe it was an unsafe area and the lock and chain we had would be extremely challenging to break. There is no signage or any indication that we should worry about our property while parked there. We also later learned that a local in a weekly cycling group was stabbed on the same bike trail just a couple of miles west who unfortunately did not make it. So, for safety concerns alone, we do not recommend this hotel. If the management knows well that being near the bike trail is unsafe, that there’s been a number of thefts in the parking lot and other nearby shops, and they refuse to have cameras, they should at least take responsibility of warning their guests of any potential safety concerns. Instead, they’re invalidating and unhelpful when property is stolen and an entire vacation is ruined. We reported the incident to corporate Hilton management 5 days ago and haven’t heard anything, so we certainly hope there will be an adequate investigation and changes to protect the safety of other guests in the future.

There’s one issue that keeps us from giving this hotel a 4 star review. The decor has been updated, the staff is welcoming and responsive, breakfast is pretty good and we liked the location. Unfortunately, the systems, especially the A/C, are outdated and not functioning properly in several places. We had to change rooms the first night due to a leaking A/C that was soaking the carpet. The room smelled moldy too, as if this was a recurring issue. They moved us quickly, and the A/C works in our 2nd room, but there’s still a funky smell, kind of like wet dog. We noticed it every time we walked in, but after being in the room a few minutes, you’d grow accustomed to it. And we didn’t want to change rooms again. (Still….is that mold?) At least the A/C worked. In a hallway near the elevator, another ceiling A/C was leaking and creating a puddle on the floor. Our overall impression was that the whole building needs an A/C overhaul. Hilton should invest in it because otherwise, this is a nice property.

Excellent Hotel! This was my first time in Arizona, and I chose this hotel for a business trip. I don't regret it at all! Great location in Tucson. If you're confused by the time zone difference (like I was, coming from Florida) and don't feel like driving around, you're in luck: St. Philip's Plaza is right across the parking lot. Tons of restaurants, live music, and an incredible vibe at night. Just perfect. The room was clean, looked recently updated and had super-cold A/C, which was perfect for the Arizona desert. The staff was amazing....super helpful and eager to answer all my questions. The breakfast was also a pleasant surprise. I was shocked (in a good way!) to see chicken tinga with tortillas and regional toppings available in the morning. What a unique and tasty experience! I'll be back in Arizona next week, and while in Tucson, this hotel will definitely be my choice again. It was just perfect for me.

Traffic is a tad crazy around 4-6pm. Location of hotel is great. Restaurants are very good. Walk within the plaza so you don't have to drive.
