- CMCharlotte MoonJan 17, 20262.0If you have plug in air fresheners all over your house and burn chemically scented candles all the time, you will probably like this motel. If you are sensitive to chemical perfumey odors, know that the place absolutely reeks of them the moment you enter and in every space within, including your room and the breakfast area. Also to note: there is no covered area for you to unload luggage from your car. If you do not have an ADA parking need, you don’t work there, you don’t drive an EV, and you are not a Diamond Elite member, you will be parking at the far end of the building and walking to the entrance. Fortunately it wasn’t raining when I arrived or left. When checking in I was assigned a room that wasn’t ready—like used linens were piled up and the door was propped open. When I went back downstairs, schlepping all my stuff still, the front desk person was engaged in phone conversation with a coworker, paused briefly to see what I needed, said it was marked as ready, and then returned to her conversation while “multi-tasking” to assign me another room and hand over the key while still talking on the phone, and not to me. Aside from all that, I did like the sort of minimalist, modern vibe of the room, but it is quite small. The shower design is ridiculous-a glass door that swings open and drips all over the floor, and a shower head that could only be reached to adjust by someone approaching 6’ tall. The room was clean, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The fan can be left on to provide white noise if you need it. It was my first experience with Avid. I won’t be having a second one.
