Incredible nice stay during this January. Very quiet, very clean, great staff and great access to the State Park. I'm a little disappointed about paying $15/day to park and having to hike back to the entrance when the lot is not patrolled or secure in anyway. On-site restaurant, Foodcraft, is a decent choice, but they're are definitely better choices for the price. The rooms could use a microwave, but otherwise it was great. On site coffee shop ($$) explained why the room coffee was less than ideal. Overall a great choice, but know that you'll pay for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, coffee, water.... etc... know before you go. Even with these notes, I'll still be back.

Stay at the Lodge was a horrible experience. The resort is under construction which was never noted on their website.nor communicated during the reservation process. The beachfront balconies overlook a very unsitely, noisy construction site from early AM until 7 PM. On top of the construction zone, I have looked at site wormers garbage laying everywhere. The complacent front desk person thought it wasn't a big deal and her demeanor during check in wasn't welcoming or informative or even approachable. On top of the disaster of a construction zone, not the most hospitable resort. Unless you valet park, plan to walk a long distance to your car...something else not noted on their site. Save yourself, stay at another brand hotel

Location is the best part of this hotel. Plenty of sea facing rooms. We stayed here for a night in one of their sea facing rooms. But there was construction work going on for a new swimming pool. So, the entire point of getting a sea facing rooms was spoilt. Now coming to service. The valet is rude. We were driving for 5 hours and parked in one of the spots near the hotel and were greeted rudely by the valet asking us to park in the overflow area. Well, the valet was correct - but the same message could’ve been communicated in a nicer way. Oh well. The receptionist had a hard time to believe that two men of different races could take the same room - she asked me twice and my partner once if we were in the same room. So, yes plenty of work needed there by the management to improve their staff’s communication skills.

Note: stayed in December/off season, so less expensive and less crowded. So happy with my stay - I could hear the waves crashing from my balcony overlooking the Gulf. I ate at the hotel restaurants mostly (because I booked when there was a sale and had a daily hotel credit), and every dish I had was delicious (namely the blackened shrimp, lobster bisque, and garlic risotto). My waiters and all the restaurant staff were so nice and accommodating, which is huge when I'm traveling alone. Front desk staff were responsive and helpful. In addition to being on the beach, I was so close to Orange and Foley for activities, dining, shopping. (Note: off season also meant some construction and the pool and some dining options being out of order). I was also pleased with the fitness room - not huge, but even with several other people in there, we had space and equipment to ourselves.

This place was a mixed bag. I'll start with the mostly good stuff. The room was really nice - my best friend and I rented a beachfront suite with a living room area and separate bedroom, and it was easily the nicest room I've stayed in for a long time - really spacious and clean, large TVs, relatively large minifridge (no freezer, which was a bit annoying, but the fridge itself was nice) and good counter space. There were a few minor annoyances - one of the bedside lamps flickered badly and the pillows were abysmal - but nothing major. The location was also lovely, really nice beach with good facilities. Now for the bad – the service. Where to even start. The kid who checked us didn't give us any info about the facility, including parking (thank goodness my friend noticed the other vehicles in the parking lot had parking tags, so I asked about that and he then handed me the tag that is required to avoid being ticketed/towed… zero mention of that beforehand). He also didn’t ask for a credit card, which I found a bit weird, but I did pre-pay fully for the room and figured maybe they were just using the card on file for incidentals. Well, I then get a text a few hours later saying that my card “didn’t fully capture” (not, “wasn’t even requested”) and that I needed to come to the front desk at my earliest convenience. By this point I was in bed so I texted back that I wasn’t actually asked for a card and would come by first thing in the morning to provide it. I then woke up to a note under the door demanding I come to the desk to put a card down for incidentals ASAP to avoid “interruptions in service” (??). I go the desk, quite irritated by this point, and was told that the check-in guy was new and hadn’t followed procedure; I remarked that I didn’t appreciate being treated like a criminal over their mistake, and the woman (maybe the only nice person I talked to my whole stay) apologized and said it was now handled. Well, I then get a phone call in my room that night from the same kid who checked me in asking AGAIN for me to come to the front desk to give my card info… when I told him I had, he said “Oh, yeah, I guess you did. I’ll take the hold off your account.” And then he hung up. The night we arrived, my friend and I tried to carry our stuff from the parking area to the room, but it’s a bit of a trek and we realized halfway to the front door that it was too much/too heavy, so my friend went ahead to the valet area to ask for a cart. The man at the valet pointed (without saying a single word) at the baggage desk, where some jerk literally looked her up and down and said (and I am quoting) “Carts are for guests only. Are you with the service crew?” When she said she was a guest, he made a skeptical noise and then demanded to know her room number (which, lol, we did have, but she could literally have just made up a number, so I’m not sure what that achieved) and then told her carts could only be operated by staff and finally sent a guy to help us. The whole experience was just bizarre, she was dressed in jeans and a nice sweater, not in sweatpants, but I guess we just didn’t look rich enough to be guests. That was pretty much the visit in a nutshell, it was the least welcoming staff I have ever encountered in a hotel in my life. I would not stay here again. The room was nice but it was way too expensive to be treated like criminals and inconveniences.
