We stayed at the Candlewood Suites in Fort Payne, Alabama the night of December 24th 2025. We booked this hotel because they advertise “a complimentary breakfast featuring hot and cold favorites”. This is important because very few restaurants are open in Fort Payne on Christmas day and the few that are are packed. When we were checking in I saw a faded sign in a plastic holder sitting on the counter. A photo of this sign is attached. It was not mentioned by the front desk clerk, Hannah. No advance notice was given when booking the room. When I saw it I picked it up and showed it to my wife and said “Look, they are pulling this crap again”. By again I meant that we had stayed at the Hampton Inn in Fort Payne that is owned by the same people a few years back on Christmas eve and they also didn’t serve the hot breakfast advertised and gave no advance notice. While my wife was looking at the sign Hannah said “Everybody deserves a day off’. I said “Yes, but everyone also deserves to get what they paid for and you should have let us know when booking”. Hannah then said “You should have called the hotel and asked if we were serving breakfast” implying it was my fault for not asking ahead. I replied “You mean the breakfast your website said you were serving?” Hannah just looked at me with a dumb expression on her face. No apology, no concern, nothing but absolute apathy. By her logic everyone should call ahead to ask if breakfast is being served, if the elevators are working, if the ice machines are working, if the A/C is working, etc. It was too late to cancel and go somewhere else so we went to the room to be greeted by Asian beetles and stink bugs. We figured there was no point to complain since Hannah didn’t care about anything. We had future reservations there but canceled them as soon as we got to the room. Between false advertising, the bugs and Hannah’s attitude we had no desire to stay there again.
