We are currently staying at this hotel in Juneau and unfortunately the biggest issue here is the noise.
The building is old and clearly needs renovation. The walls feel paper-thin — you can hear everything from neighboring rooms: snoring, TVs, conversations, bathroom noises. In our first room on the 4th floor, we couldn’t sleep because the guest next door was snoring extremely loudly. At 6 AM we woke up again when he turned on the TV — it sounded like it was inside our room.
We went to the front desk to request a room change. At first, they said nothing could be done. After a long discussion with the manager (who unfortunately had difficulty understanding what we were asking for), we were finally moved.
However, the second room was just as noisy — if not worse. It was on a lower level (room 230), facing the street, and we could clearly hear the neighbors talking and laughing late into the night. The radiators were also making loud knocking sounds all night. On top of that, an alarm clock in the room went off at 6 AM — which housekeeping should check and reset between guests.
It felt like we were moved from one noisy room to another without the actual issue being addressed. We specifically asked for a quieter room away from neighbors, but that didn’t happen.
Breakfast was a mixed experience. On the first day, I ordered avocado toast. The bread itself was excellent — artisan-style with olives — and the avocado was fresh. However, the cherry tomatoes were heavily sautéed in oil and placed on top, making the entire dish extremely greasy. The fried eggs and hash browns were also cooked in a lot of oil, and the hash browns were crispy outside but undercooked inside.
The next day, I ordered the same plate but asked for fresh (not sautéed) tomatoes and boiled eggs instead. The kitchen adjusted the order perfectly, and that breakfast was actually very good — fresh, balanced, and much more enjoyable. So I do appreciate that the kitchen staff listened and corrected the issue.
Overall, the kitchen was willing to improve. Unfortunately, the front desk did not resolve the main problem, which is the lack of soundproofing and overall comfort. If you are a light sleeper, this may not be the right place for you.
