⭐ 1-Star Review – DoubleTree by Hilton Calgary North: A Masterclass in Disappointment
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a hotel forgets it’s part of the Hilton Group and decides to roleplay as a budget roadside motel, look no further. DoubleTree by Hilton Calgary North just delivered the most spectacular hotel failure I’ve seen in 40 years of staying with Hilton brands — and I’ve stayed in everything from Conrad to Hampton.
Hilton Honors Promotion… or Hilton Honors Confusion?
Walked into reception, saw a big shiny promo: “Join Hilton Honors! Get 500 points + Spin & Win!”
Sounds great, right? I even recommended it to my roommate.
The staff’s response? Basically:
“No. Not for you. Don’t ask again.”
If tiny-print terms and conditions are going to be the deciding factor, maybe print them in a size larger than an ant’s diary. This isn’t a riddle challenge; it’s a hotel check-in.
$2.50 Water – The Ultimate Hilton Plot Twist
Two water bottles beside the TV. And surprise! Not complimentary. Only free if you’re Diamond, Gold, or Silver. Everyone else pays $2.50 each.
The sign does exist… in microscopic text.
Honestly, I came to Calgary for a trip, not a treasure hunt for transparent pricing.
Room Furniture: Perfect for Those Who Enjoy Risky Acrobatics
The office chair was so unstable I felt like I was auditioning for Cirque du Soleil. If an elderly guest sat on it, the next step is probably the emergency room. Housekeeping? Engineering? Management? Anybody awake?
The Wobbly Toilet Experience
Nothing like sitting on a toilet that moves with you like a theme park ride. It wasn’t “installed” — it was loosely suggested to the floor.
Shower Dial: Pick Your Fighter
❄️ Ice Age cold
🔥 Surface of the Sun hot
No middle. Just extremes. Whoever set this up must think lukewarm water is a myth.
And the Final Boss: The Beds
We left with rashes.
I came for rest. I left with skincare problems. Enough said.
Why I Didn’t Report It During the Stay
Reception was often empty, like a ghost town but without the charm.
The first staff interaction already felt like a brick wall — zero interest in helping, problem-solving, or even pretending.
Housekeeping availability during the holidays was a lottery: full service? No service? Surprise me.
Conclusion
If Hilton replies with the usual:
“We apologize for the inconvenience, guest experience is our priority…”
I’ll save them time: my experience clearly wasn’t.
If you’re reading this and considering staying here, do yourself a favor — book anywhere else. Calgary has plenty of hotels. No need to pick the one that turns your vacation into a side quest called “Survive the Stay.”
⭐ If zero stars were an option, I would’ve clicked it with enthusiasm.

Before going there I confirmed over the call if the deposit has to be made by credit card or we can by debit either, the lady over the call assured me that i can pay by debit card also. I went there and the guy there said we cant pay the deposit by debit card These guys wasted our time by providing wrong information over the call.

The room was okay.. small size but was clean. The only off putting thing was the front desk who checked us in… we checked in probably 10 min before 3pm and the lady at front desk asked for my id and credit card and gave us a key card and told us where the elevator was. No info on breakfast or the lounge or pool or even wifi, no smile, no greetings and very casually dressed …. When we left the hotel a few mins after 3, the shifts probably changed and we had some help from some well dressed lovely ladies, had to bug them to ask about everything that we needed.
We stayed at 4 different hotels on your trip to review the hotels in the area but this first impression left an annoying taste in the mouth….!
