    This has been one of the most infuriating, disorganized, and misleading experiences I’ve ever had with a company. I originally went into a Cox store because I received an email saying I needed to upgrade my modem. While there, the conversation was steered toward Cox Mobile. I was told that trading in both my phone and my spouse’s phone would lower our overall phone bill, cut our internet price in half, and qualify us for a promotion of up to $830 off any iPhone model. Both of our phones qualified for the full $830, and since the iPhone 17 is $830, I was explicitly told that Cox would cover the device payments entirely. I made it VERY clear to the sales rep that I did not want to get into something I would regret later. I was reassured multiple times that there would be no device payments. Based on that assurance, we traded in both phones. We left the store that day with my new phone, and they kept my old phone to ship to Asurion. My spouse’s phone had to be ordered due to backorder. Then the first bill came. Not only did it include a device payment, but also an activation charge (the activation charge was to be expected, but not the device payment). When I went back to the store the very next day, I was told that I would have to pay the device payments for up to three billing cycles before credits applied. That was never communicated during the sale. Not once. A few days later, my spouse’s phone arrived. We took it to the Cox store to activate it, and once again, they took her old phone, telling us they would ship it to Asurion. Shortly after that, my old phone was mailed back to my house with a note saying Asurion didn’t receive enough information in time. When I returned to the Cox store with the phone, no one knew what to do. I was told they’d look into it and contact me the next morning. That never happened. When I called the next day, I was suddenly told that we were responsible for shipping my spouse’s phone to Asurion, despite being explicitly told at activation for her phone that we could leave it at the store for them to handle. I was then told I needed to come pick it up. I attempted to print the Asurion shipping label that was emailed to me the same email I had previously shown to a Cox rep who told me not to worry about it. The label would not pull up. I took time off work to go to the Cox store for help and to get things figured out, only to find out they had closed at 4 PM on New Year’s Eve, which was never communicated. So now I’m being charged for device payments I was told I would never pay, my trade-ins were mishandled, I received conflicting instructions from multiple employees, I wasted time, gas, and PTO, and no one at Cox seems to know their own process. This entire experience has been deceptive, poorly managed, and unbelievably frustrating. Cox Mobile sales feels like a bait-and-switch mixed with pure incompetence. If you’re considering switching, don’t. What was supposed to save money turned into a complete mess. Zero stars. Absolute disaster.
