Don't like machines and layout of new casinos. Had been quite a few years since I had been to any casino's. Nothing like casinos I had been to. I had been to Atlantic City, Las Vegas and Cherokee, NC.

Its been a few years since I stayed overnight but the rooms at the hotel have always been exceptional. Always extremely clean, great staff at the front desk, and comfortable beds. All you can ask for in a hotel. My 2 star review is from a month ago when my husband and I went in the afternoon. I go with him because he likes it. Granted, I don't bet big as I usually wont go over 3 dollar spins however my husband will bet bigger. We get the mailers from Hollywood all the time telling us we have so much in free slot play. My husband also has the Penn Play App and Hollywood Casino Slots App. He saw on his Penn Play App that he had 128 dollars in Penn Play Cash as well as a bunch of money in free slot play ( I don't remember the exact amount but it was over 100 dollars ). We decide to go so he can play his 228 plus dollars in free play along with 500 he was taking and 250 I was taking. We get there and he checks in at the kiosk and it says he only has 8 dollars in Penn Play Cash and 20 in free spins. He goes up to the cage and speaks with them, they call a supervisor over, he shows them his app, logs out and logs back in for them and it still says he has 120 dollars in Penn Play Cash. They tell him to go to the players Center which he does. He is there for 20 minutes showing them and they call a supervisor downstairs. She proceeds to tell him that the free slot play showing he has isn't real, and that he only earns so much ever few days, and then she says his Penn Cash says on the App in can only be used for online purchases or for shows under the How to Redeem. My husband quickly corrected her and showed her that it says it can be redeemed in person for free slot play. She then said he was correct and took his phone and went upstairs, then came back down and said she showed her boss and they agreed that the Penn Play App must be wrong and that all they could do was give him 50 bucks in Free Play for the mistake ( which they acknowledged was on their end ). She said that the free balance of 120 dollars would disappear any day. Its now been a month and it still says he has that balance on his Penn Play app. The same app owned by the parent company of Hollywood Casino. That was very disappointing as we wouldn't have driven from Stephens City Va on a Wed afternoon for only 70 dollars in free play. Their App told him he had that much in free play and they refused to honor it. And based off the fact he had been there several weeks earlier doing 7.50 to 10 dollar bets we really though he had accumulated that much. We haven't been back since although I'm sure we will be. My husband years ago won a large amount of money on the Lucky Lady side bet on Black Jack when he had the 2 Queen of Hearts and the dealer had a blackjack. It's also the closest casino to us. He has the Hometown Hero players card as a Marine Corps veteran and we like the benefits associated with that. This casino also has excellent food. The Final Cut Steakhouse is just as good as any high end steakhouse you will find within a 3 hour drive IE; Ruth's Chris, The Capital Grille, etc and the Chinese restaurant is amazing. The selection of slot machines is good and you can find all the most current and popular games here with the exception of the Invaders from the Planet Moolah which they removed between March 7th when we were there the time before and this last time. Bring that one back please. Finally, unlike other casinos the security is really good here. You don't have to worry about being robbed. You still have the occasional guy come up to you if you have money on your machine asking you to let them have 10 or 20 bucks but it doesn't always happen. Between this Hollywood Casino and the one in Grantsville Pa, then Maryland Live, Rocky Gap, and MGM which are the ones we go to this place is still our go to. My husband got an email about his experience last time from the casino manager several weeks ago and he explained all of this and clicked yes that they could contact him about his experience but he never heard anything so who knows??

Overall , Hollywood Casino at Charles town offers many options for those looking to have a good evening or even a weekend away. With numerous gaming options , the casino offers something different for everyone. There are numerous restaurants on site with several options such as steakhouses , asian or even american contemporary. The hotel is conveniently located on property with rooms considered par. Live horse racing is available as well as simulcast and many other betting options.
This is a MASSIVE WASTE OF SPACE, in an otherwise already VERY SMALL, HISTORIC TOWN. I mean just look at this place on google maps, it is a gigantic sprawling grounds that only promotes ONE THING, DEGENERACY. Huge waste of space that honestly just hurts the eyes, not to mention they only want to take your money and the lot of you are not smart enough to beat the house. Do yourself a favor, and if you are thinking about going here, stay at home and stack your money so you can actually do something important with your life!

I’ve been coming to this casino for 10 to 15 years and still love it. It’s a great place to just wander around and get lost in all the different areas, whether you’re playing tables or hitting the machines.
I’ve eaten pretty much everywhere here over the years. Steakhouse, sports bar, asian spot, food court, even the buffet back when they had it. Always had good experiences, and the staff are great.
I do miss what the poker room used to be though. It was one of the best on the East Coast. I used to play for a couple hours, grab some food, then go and hit machines and tables. It was the most fun ever. It’s not the same now, probably because MGM stepped up their promos, but I still like the room and the people. It just used to be something special.
