At REI, we love to get outside and play, and we know first-hand the importance of quality outdoor gear. We stand behind all our products with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and we design our own line of award-winning REI brand gear and clothing. Whether you're new to outdoor adventure or a seasoned pro, we gladly share our enthusiasm for our products--and the trails, slopes and waterways where we play.
As the author of The Most Crucial Knots to Know and The Motivated Amateur’s Guide to Winter Camping, I spend a lot of time in outdoor stores, and REI is a strong location in Spokane.
As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series, I also notice how these spaces are built for real use, and this one stands out. There’s a dual-tower climbing wall in the middle of the store, which immediately sets the tone. Shoes are upstairs, while the main camping and outdoor gear is downstairs, with a solid clothing section as well.
The selection is deep across categories. Backpack options are extensive, and the climbing gear section is well stocked. They carry high-end brands like Arc’teryx alongside REI’s in-house line. The bike shop is impressive, with a strong range of bikes and service capability.
You will also find a good variety of freeze-dried food, along with smaller accessories and gear items that round out the store.
One thing to know is parking. It is located behind the building. If you follow GPS directions too closely, it may take you toward a loading dock, so plan to circle around to the back.
It is a well-equipped REI with strong inventory, a unique climbing setup, and everything needed for serious outdoor use.

Recently tried to warranty/return a pair of on cloud shoes as a coop member that were about six months old and had some rips/tears and was told by the store that they had a lot of miles on them (they didn’t as they were used for daily wear and weren’t even a year old) and they wouldn’t be able to warranty them. Since when are high end shoes not even expected to last a year? REI’s customer service and care has gone down significantly over the last few years and it seems that they only prioritize money. I would strongly recommend buying shoes elsewhere with a company who will take care of you.

I missed my deadline for the $30 new membership card by couple days due to military orders and they couldn’t help me at all. What’s the point of the gift card if it’s only valid for 2 weeks.

I wanted to leave a shout out to Nick in the shoe department. He was extremely professional, and patient as I shuttled between some Altras and Topos. His knowledge of the brands assured me that I would be happy with my selection. After years of wearing Altras which I'm very happy with, he convinced me that I'd be equally pleased with Topo. Without his assistance, I may have missed another great trail shoe. I couldn't be more impressed with their selection and the help from Nick and the REI staff. Thanks!
