Predatory REI garage policy at this location I’m a long time REI customer but I won’t go back to this location. I went there on a Monday night to shop for a few minutes - there was ample parking in the garage. I missed a field in the parking registration - I agree this is my mistake. But they had given me a $36 ticket within 5 minutes of me arriving - and the note says it doubles ($72) if not paid in 5 days. The goal is clearly to give tickets and make money. I was there for < 1 hour. I won’t be back.

I needed help picking a Garmin watch and Gregg was wonderful, warm, and really helpful with making a decision. Interactions like that really brighten my day.

Great store experience recently made worse by the Diamond takeover of the parking lot. Such a shame. I get they basically have a monopoly in town but it’s too bad they couldn’t find any other less awful operator for their system.

I bought a pair of REI brand snow pants about 2 years ago. I only wore them about 5 times and they ripped right on the seam. I brought them in to inquire about either swapping them out or getting them repaired. Shelly, the manager on duty offered no help and completely denied that this was a quality issue with the pants. She was extremely rude and dismissive. I’ve been an REI member for 10 years and spend on average $600 a year there. This was the first time I ever had an issue with a purchase there. I feel most customers choose REI and pay the upcharge because they know they stand behind their quality. It seems the attitude towards their quality promise has shifted. Knowing this now I will shop at other outdoor retailers like EVO that stand behind their products.

Shop local stores instead. The REI flagship store has been a disaster since the pandemic. I’d rather drive to Bellevue or Lynwood return to the flagship store because they effectively eliminated free parking by contracting with a predatory parking manager that is infamous for scamming people. The store manager decided that harming its customers is the best policy. REI has been on a steep decline in general and is only getting worse. The dividend isn’t worth it anymore. REI used to be my go to store, but sadly has declined. They stopped selling many independent brands, even local ones, in favor of garbage products from VF Group, Amer Sports, Columbia, and other PE groups that buy and destroy independent brands. REI is now just another crappy corporation that doesn’t care about anything but making wealthy people more wealthy.
