Stopped in on the way home from a ride today because I was having issues with my SRAM AXS system. I had already performed a hard reset, but the battery wouldn’t connect and the app kept prompting a firmware update without ever successfully connecting.
Only one person was working, and I left my bike on the car while I asked if they had time to take a quick look. No big deal if they didn’t—I was prepared to go to another shop. The mechanic was out, and the sales associate immediately began telling me what the problem was without actually listening to anything I was saying. He insisted it was my fault for using the SRAM app and claimed the system “just needed a hard reset,” which I had already done and repeatedly tried to explain.
I even had to ask him to stop explaining basic steps I already understood and had completed, but he continued talking over me and repeating himself. He never gave me a chance to explain why a hard reset wasn’t the issue. The entire interaction felt dismissive and condescending—he didn’t listen, and he certainly didn’t hear me say I had already done exactly what he was recommending. After 15 years of riding and working in the cycling industry, this was one of the worst bike shop experiences I’ve ever had.
I left and drove to Trek University Place, where I was immediately relieved to be greeted by a woman. She and the (male) mechanic actually listened to me, and within minutes we identified that the pairing light on the right shifter would not turn off. Because they took the time to listen, we were able to determine that the shifter itself is likely failing—and it’s still under warranty for a few more days. The bike shop who listened to me likely saved me thousands of dollars.

Good bike shop but the daily marketing email spam is awful and does not include an unsubscribe link. Please get over your mass marketing email phase
