  We went to REI so we could try on light weight, waterproof hiking boots. Our experience is sneaker sizing doesn't accurately reflect hiking boot sizing. Upon our arrival to the boot section, we were warmly greeted by Diane, who not only asked us what we wanted, but asked follow-up questions to ensure she understood. I had researched hiking boots and thought we'd choose Hokas or Merrills, but Diane introduced us to Topos and my wife literally did the "head exploding" signal when she tried on the Topos women. I have relatively large feet, so Diane fitted me for the men's Topos, which is a size larger than the men's ASICS I wear daily. After successfully fitting us with boots, Diane helped us select raincoats. We are traveling to Ireland in 4.5 weeks and our friends assure us it will rain every day. We needed lightweight (for packing) with excellent waterproofing and she introduced us to REI's 3L raincoats, which we think will be perfect for the trip. She also encouraged us to buy spray to clean and re-waterproof the coats when we notice the coats losing their effectiveness. She emphasized this happens to all coats so we need to ensure we keep them clean and treated. Diane treated us as friends, helping us to choose the gear that will ensure our trip to Ireland is comfortable.

  When trying to get something in my local Virginia Beach store from REI there was going to be a long delay. They searched for stores in the area that could accommodate, and the Woodbridge store was one of them. I paid for the item in Virginia Beach and had it held in Woodbridge. The next time I was in the area. Took a bit, but I did connect with them and it went off without a hitch. Customer service was fantastic and most importantly they had the item that I wanted ready to go with no delay. The store is different than Virginia Beach and I really like the way it was laid out with multiple levels. Things were organized and neat like I’ve come to expect a REI. Really great selection of so many things I like. The value is relative, because I view the quality of their items to be exceptional and worth the price. I would recommend an as well would say that the area that this was built in has a ton to offer. It’s an upscale outdoor shopping area.

  This REI location is consistently outstanding! Always welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. The staff are friendly without being pushy, extremely well-informed, and clearly passionate about the products and the outdoors. Bonus points for the bag-less approach 🤩 it’s eco-friendly which aligns with REI’s sustainability values and a great reminder to bring my own bag like a responsible adult. Clean, well-organized store and a team that truly cares about the customer experience. This is how retail should be done.
