Honestly the customer service was great, but they ended up giving my wife external and bone bruising. We had her fitted for ski boots, which were comfortable- but after they put in the new inserts and we went to the mountain, they ended up hurting way more than they did at the store. after our first run that produced tears all the way down, I pull her boots off and pull the liners out. Lo and behold, they put the wrong sides of liners in the boots. So, the left liner was in the right boot, and the right liner in the left. This mistake totally messed up her feet, and has left her with surface bruising and bone bruises. After I switched the liners, they felt much better, but three days later, she is still in pain. Moral of the story: whatever you do, don’t let these guys work on your boots. Do it somewhere else, or do it yourself. Even little mistakes like this make things way worse. Even REI in Farmington would be better, they’ve never done me wrong. Just don’t go here. Not worth it

I have shopped at this store many times and have usually had a good experience. But today I came in to buy a hiking backpack, wanted an opinion from an expert so I asked a worker there. She let me know she was not very knowledgeable, and asked to have someone who knew more come give me some advice. Ben came over and looked very annoyed. I greeted him and said “hi! how’s it going?” and got a simple “fine”. I told him I needed help deciding between two backpacks, and was told “okay”. I mentioned how with my short stature sometimes backpacks are too long which is what i needed help figuring out, he said “okay. Not once did he ask what I was looking for, what questions I had, or give advice/knowledge on the backpacks I was choosing between. I truly came in asking for help and felt I did not get any. I also felt as if I was inconveniencing him for wanting help, which is part of his job. It was also frustrating since the gal I originally asked called Ben over specifically because he had more knowledge.

I’ve heard from someone who works within the company that this REI has a bit of a reputation compared with other locations, and after my recent visit I can understand why. The overall vibe can feel a little off. The younger staff members are fantastic. They’re enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem to want to help. A young man named Forrest assisted me while I was shopping for hiking shoes, and I’m incredibly grateful for him. He brought out three options and helped me narrow things down until I found exactly what I was looking for. While I was trying them on, an older woman with short gray hair approached and sharply told me I had too many boxes out. There were only three, in the designated fitting area. I hadn’t made a mess, and it felt unnecessary and uncomfortable to be spoken to that way. She moved the boxes around without really changing anything, but the interaction definitely changed the mood. I also noticed another customer nearby with a similar number of boxes who wasn’t approached. It was disappointing, especially when compared to other specialty shoe stores where trying multiple options is encouraged and handled with patience. I hope management takes a look at how some customers are being addressed, because the helpfulness of employees like Forrest is what keeps people coming back.

Staff was patient with me trying out lots of different shoes. They helped me find good shoes for hiking, and another pair for more everyday/running. The shoes are very comfortable! They also gave good tips for how to know if a shoe fits right, particularly for hiking. There’s a small rock area where you can check out how the shoes feel while hiking. I also joined the membership program, which cost $30 for a lifetime one, but they also gave me a $30 gift card which is cool. There’s a lot of other cool stuff there too, but I didn’t spend too much time looking at it. The running/hiking shoes I looked at were mostly $140-$180, but there were some on clearance around $90, some regular priced around $110-120.
