The shop at this location is extremely rude. After talking on the phone to them I drove out to the location at their suggestion to get advice on getting a Thule box fitted to my vehicle, the assistant was extremely sarcastic and rude from the get go and when I said “perhaps I should find another store to help me” he responded with a lot of attitude and “fine with me”. So I guess I will. I wish I could tag Thule so they could see the poor costumer service they are entrusting their products to.

First time physically going in to REI. I have always been an online shopper. With this company. To say I was impressed by the customer service would be an understatement. Numerous employees asked me if I needed help and actually followed through with the me. They offered to find my size (big guy who fears retail shopping) and treated me with kindness and respect. It really became clear when I stopped by the carhart store afterwards. One single employee acknowledged me by just saying "how ya doing" and walked right by. Much different experience at REI. Although at times they may be a bit more expensive, the service and treatment I received has earned my customer loyalty. Special shout out to Katie M. for noticing how lost I looked while searching for a good mid layer jacket. She was kind enough to give me a general layout of the store and explained numerous ways that I could save money by joining their program. There was also another great employee who was working at the fitting rooms. I missed his name but he also took the time to explain how the sales prices worked and some tips to identify what is on sale, regular price, etc. Extremely helpful knowledge. I was very shocked to learn (after I left) that the employees aren't payed on commission! I will definitely be back for a plethora of outdoor needs.

Got a used bike checked up here by Lincoln, he was super helpful and kind. Gave me his thoughts and tips to help maintain it and let me go with the bike in tip top shape!

Horrible uneducated staff, rude and Kurt. Bought a lot of items and couldn't get a bag to carry them out in. The clerk just looked at me snuggly and said we have nothing for you

I have been told by someone who works here that this REI is known among the other REIs as having staff who are odd. The atmosphere is off in here. The young people are amazing, knowledgeable and full of enthusiasm. The old people who work here can be quite nasty. Not all of them, but here are some stinkers. This week I was looking for a pair of hiking shoes. A young man, I think his name was Forrest, was super helpful. I am so grateful to him as he found my dream shoe. He brought out 3 boxes of shoes for me, and I sat in the designated area, trying them on. An older woman, with short grey hair, came up when I was on to the second pair and started berating me about having too many boxes. It was three. I didn’t even acknowledge her; it was so weird. She aggressively moved the boxes around, not making any difference to the Feng Shui at all, but I guess it made her feel superior. The man on the other side of me had at least 3 boxes, but she didn’t harass him. Contrast this to somewhere like the Salt Lake Running Company, where they will bring you 10 boxes of shoes if you need them and do it with a smile. This is an ongoing issue at this REI, and honestly, it may be worth driving to the one at South Town if you want to avoid nasty old people.
