Decently sized REI in an area I don't see any real hiking options around our much other outdoor options. Still nice to have a store to cater to outdoors minded people.

Had to get new hiking boots for my daughter. Tom H. spent a lot of time with us, explained all the types of boots, made recommendations and was very patient with her while she decided. I think we got a great pair of boots. Thank you Tom.

They have good quality gear and service is great, despite having their union busted. In light of the corporate politics? I just cant suggest supporting this business until they start treating their employees better. I back the unions.

Had a really uncomfortable experience at REI. As Canadian residents, (just moved to the US) we haven’t been to many REI locations or large U.S. outdoor stores, so maybe we misunderstood the store policy/culture. I tried on a backpack that was already filled and hanging on the wall with the rest of the packs, assuming it was available to try on like the others. (Like they do at MEC in Canada) An employee immediately rushed over and very aggressively told me not to “play with the displays” because they were “not toys” and they worked very hard on them. Understandable, but the tone was so unnecessarily disrespectful. What made the interaction more confusing was that another customer was actively walking around wearing a pack. I apologized and explained that I thought the bag was meant for trying on, but the employee responded with a very flat and sharp “no, not at all” and then proceeded to lecture us in a very condescending tone about sizing and backpack fitting. The way she was talking to us, made it seem like we’ve never been outside before. I’ve been properly sized for packs multiple times before and have backpacked over 215 miles, so the entire interaction felt unnecessarily gatekeepy and uncomfortable. I can only imagine how discouraging this would feel for someone brand new to backpacking and trying to get into the hobby. Maybe it was a real off day for this specific worker, she seemed super knowledgeable at the very least. If certain packs are not meant to be tried on without assistance, that’s completely fair — but there should be signage or clearer communication instead of making customers feel embarrassed for an honest mistake. If it causes that extreme of a reaction, then maybe just put a sign up. Overall, the interaction left a really bad impression, and left us feeling very uncomfortable while in the store. Other than that sour situation, the store is very well stocked and very clean! Nice selection for whatever you may need. Will probably get a new pack elsewhere though.
