I don't typically write negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. I've played Legion many times over the years, as recently as last summer, and the course was always in fine shape and the experience was solid. Today was a different story.
The round started with the first tee marshal complaining how they were multiple groups behind and “losing money”. Not what you want to hear after dropping $175 for two golfers and a cart to play, we would hope for a bit more professionalism. During the round, we were scolded by three different marshals to speed up, despite the fact that our group of four, playing a scramble, shot even par. We stayed close behind the group ahead of us the entire round and would have been hitting into them had we played any faster. At one point, after being pushed to close the gap and increase pace, one of our shots actually struck the cart of the group ahead of us. That's not a pace-of-play issue, that's a safety issue caused directly by staff pressuring golfers to rush. Tee times spaced only seven minutes apart will produce backups regardless of how quickly groups play, and that shouldn't be pushed onto customers to the point of creating a hazard.
After our round, we raised this with a staff member at the desk, a different person from any of the marshals. Rather than acknowledging the issue, we got a shrug, no apology, no acknowledgment, no attempt at customer service. The common theme of the day (right down to the placard hanging in each golf cart) was to hurry, not enjoy.
On top of this, course conditions were the worst I've seen here. There were dead, hard patches around several greens and standing water or mud in multiples areas, including on the cart path. Some of this is understandable given the region's weather, but not at this price point.
I’ve played two other courses in the area in the past month, each time paying less for better conditions, friendlier staff, and a better overall experience. Between the cost, the conditions, and how we were treated today, I'd recommend going elsewhere. I know I will.
