Cedrik is a total weirdo. He definitely needs more training! A customer should never be chastised for making a return! REI you NEED to do better with your customer service department.

Good selection of gear, nice store. The sales people don’t stop badgering about becoming a member which is $35. Literally will not stop. They give you a $35 voucher for the next visit and go on and on about the benefits. So I got the membership. Went back today for another round with my $35 voucher and ended up at the register with a hefty purchase. I was informed my membership savings from today’s purchase won’t be available until March next year 👍🏻 I’ll mark that in my calendar and set my alarm. The cherry on top was the cashier with a heavy valley girl accent. “Like omg, like totally totally omg” … She heaped the stuff I just purchased on top of counter like a pile of dirty laundry and pushed the pile at me.🤯 I was shocked. I was tempted to say something, but held it in. I asked for a bag, Whereby she said, “We like don’t like have like bags” …

I had a great time shopping! Clean, super organized. Everything was great until I went to check out. A employee, (hispanic, glasses, longer hair, around 5ft 6inch height). Asked me to join the loyalty program, I asked if it is a credit card, he said no, I said okay I will sign up. He takes 2-3 minutes getting all my info and I sign up and go to pay. Then I realize, I'm paying 30$ dollars more then what I thought, I asked him why. He said it was 30 dollars to sign up!!!! Tried to charge me did not say anything!!! I appreciated the salesmenship, so I shrugged it off even though he wasted my time and tried to sneak in a 30 dollar fee. But this is where he crossed the line, he then became rude attitude change and told me I was going to regret it if my product does not work and that I can't return it or get refund unless I pay the fee to get reward program. Completely unprofessional, ruined my experience, and frankly was a horrible look. I get you need to get a certain Amount of rewards sign ups. I'm sure the REI employees are incentivized to get reward sign ups, but this employee sacrificed Customer Service for salesmanship and ruined my experience.

🤷‍♂️I stopped by to pick up a couple of piranha shorts I paid a total of $189 for two pairs of shorts. The customer service experience when I was paying at the cash register was less than acceptable. I've been a member for many years. I had received 20% off coupons through the mail and I had forgotten them. I asked the woman with the mask behind the register if she would honor them and she said no that she needed them in order to scan them. Which sent up red flags because I had never been told that before. Lastly this woman is wearing a mask which is basically pushing a political false narrative. REI should not allow its employees to do that. I could not understand her when she was explaining things at the cash register she had to pull the mask down in order to talk. Which defeats the purpose of wearing a mask to begin with. Mask do not prevent or stop viruses that is a proven fact. The overall customer service experience at that REI location was terrible 😑 REI is the business of selling its products and providing good customer service to its customers it's NOT in the business of allowing its employees to make political statements. If an employee is sick then they should stay home.🤷‍♂️
