  I spent about 30 minutes in the store, walking past multiple employees while carrying two different $200 backpacks, and no one acknowledged me or offered to help. It was a pretty disappointing shopping experience. The one exception was Yvette, my cashier. She was the only bright spot during my visit. She was friendly, helpful, and genuinely engaged. She told me about the used gear program, explained the benefits of becoming a member, and made the checkout experience pleasant. Thank you, Yvette. Your customer service stood out, and you deserve to be recognized for the excellent job you're doing. (The 5 stars is for her service, not for the store. Rating the store I would say a 1.)

  I had an excellent experience shopping here and felt the staff was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and available throughout the entire experience. I came to REI looking for hiking boots, and a sales associate immediately came to assist me when I entered the shoe section. They worked with me to determine the most important features for my needs and gave me great recommendations. Lastly, they brought out lots of options to try on and helped me evaluate which boots are the best options for my needs. In this time of online shopping and chronically understaffed retailed brands, it was incredibly refreshing to see REI is investing in people and a positive customer experience over cost cutting. I'll add more about the quality investment once I've put these boots to the test. Keep in mind, the boots here are pretty pricy ($190). However, the staff made sure to remind me of the 1 year return policy and that I should try hiking with the ones I picked and swap them for another option if they aren't working for me. I'll come back to this post in a couple months time with an update on how this turned out.
